We could cry tears of joy.

In news that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face, Greggs has announced it will reopen 800 stores in mid June.

Yep, that means we only have a matter of weeks before we're reunited with steak bakes and sausage rolls. We're drooling just thinking about it...

As we know, the bakery gurus trialled a number of stores earlier this month and it seems to have been a success, with Greggs now planning on reopening 800 of its bakeries in just over a fortnight.

A Greggs spokesperson told The Sun: "We have planned and delivered robust shop trials using our new operational safety measures and they have progressed well, allowing us to now move to open an increased number of our shops from mid-June."

Greggs temporarily closed all of its 2,050 stores on 24th March, following the lockdown announcement. But now, like many other food outlets, it feels confident that it can safely serve the British public once again.

We did wonder how long we would be able to cope without a Greggs sausage roll tbh.

Last month, the bakery chain announced it would be reopening 20 of its stores within the Newcastle area on a trial basis.

However, just a few days later and Greggs announced it had decided to take a complete u-turn, revealing that actually the trial will take place behind closed doors.

It seemed the change of decision was believed to be down to customer reaction and just how many Greggs fans may descend on the bakeries once the trial began.

For this reason, the bakery did not disclose which stores were participating in the trial.

At the time, Greggs explained that if the test was successful, it planned to open around 700 of its stores from 8th June with the aim of all its bakeries welcoming customers again by 1st July.

So it seems the trial must have gone to plan, considering a further 100 will also be reopening.

When the stores do reopen, there is expected to be a number of rules, including strict social distancing measures and extra health and safety precautions.

While the locations of the 800 stores are yet to be announced they are expected to be spread across the country.

We're so excited we can almost *taste* that flaky, buttery pastry.
