Dogs might be known as man's best friend, but unfortunately, people don't always treat them with the care and compassion they deserve.
Case in point, this heartbreaking video that's emerged of a dog being abandoned on Wednesday (8 March) by the roadside in Dallas, Texas:
The heart-wrenching footage was captured by CCTV cameras in the area, and the hunt is now on for the currently unidentified man who abandoned the German Shepherd.

In the video, the man can be seen taking the dog out of his SUV when a voice shouts at him from across the street.
He proceeds to ignore the voice and get back into the vehicle as the dog follows him, but he deliberately stops the animal from getting back inside the car.
Jeremy Boss, President of the Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission, told WFAA: "That was an intentional dump and he did not want to be caught. And he did not want that dog and he made that clear."

As if all that wasn't horrifying enough to watch, the dog chases after the car on the road - presumably confused about why its owner is driving away without them.
This put the dog in considerable danger from other motorists and the German Shepard narrowly avoided being hit by another car.
"It makes me sick to my stomach when I see people that will take the time to take their dog, drive out here, and throw it out like trash like Dowdy Ferry is known for," Boss added.
Those who witnessed the animal being abandoned thankfully took the dog in before it could get into further trouble on the road.

But this didn't stop the German Shepard from sustaining a minor injury to its leg.
Otherwise, the animal was reported to be in good health when it was recovered by Dallas Animal Services on Wednesday evening.
Dumping an animal is a Class A misdemeanour, which is why Dallas Police are on the hunt for the man in the video - but they need public help.

"A crime like this is one of those that's so random that we need the public's help when they see something like, in this case, something suspicious, or they see an act like this taking place," Dallas Police Department spokesperson Brian Martinez told WFAA.
Boss added: "People that dump dogs, they have no conscience.
"Either that or they have no brain. I don't understand the logic in doing it."
If you have any information about which could lead to the apprension of the man in the video, please contact the Dallas Police Animal Cruelty Division.
