Joey Essex needed emergency assistance during a terrifying water challenge on the Australian version of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
The 31-year-old reality television star, who is best known for starring in TOWIE, started to panic as he ran out of oxygen during a water challenge in a tank.
He needed emergency assistance from a diver to help him reach the surface of the freezing cold water which was partially covered by plexiglass.
Once he found each hole, Joey had to emerge from the water and find gold stars in a containers dubbed ‘ice blocks' which, in true I’m a Celeb fashion, were filled with creepy crawlies.
After reaching the end of the course, Joey was given just 20 seconds to swim back to the start where hosts Chris Brown and Julia Morris were waiting.
But as Joey struggled to make it through the hole, Julia urgently called for an emergency diver to help.
She said: “Oh my God. I'm gonna panic. Can we get the diver?”
Within seconds a scuba diver appeared under water and helped Joey locate the hole so he could breathe.
After the terrifying ordeal, Joey exited the pool by a ladder.
Luckily Joey made it onto dry land where he was able to reflect on the trial and the scary final seconds. "That was intense. I couldn't find the hole. The goggles got the water in them. And it's hard... You couldn't... It was hard to find the holes."
He added: “There was [sic] a few times that I was panicking hard underwater. I couldn't breathe.”
Joey is currently taking part in the Australian version of I’m a Celeb inspired by the smash hit ITV programme.
He is the only British star in the jungle for the Aussie’s eight season of the show. Fans may remember that Joey actually took part in the British version eight years ago.
