Reason why Jessica Chastain was one of the only celebrities wearing a mask at the Oscars

Social media users spotted the Academy Award-winning actress wearing a mask while watching the ceremony.

People who watched the Oscars ceremony on Sunday noticed that Jessica Chastain was one of the only celebrities wearing a facemask.

The 45-year-old actress was in the audience at the 95th Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood's Dolby Theatre when host Jimmy Kimmel asked the Academy Award-winning actress a question during a segment.

The late night talk show host, 55, joked about her time working with Matt Damon in the 2015 film The Martian to reignite his fake feud with the Jason Bourne star, 52.

"Was it difficult filming your movie, The Martian, because your costar, Matt Damon, can't read and smells like dog medicine?"

Some social media users were left wondering why Jessica decided to wear a face mask although it is no longer required to do so in public spaces.

Multiple viewers on Twitter showered Jessica with praise. One fan gushed: “Jessica Chastain is wearing a mask at the Oscars. I love her.”

Another commentator wrote: “Jessica Chastain deserves an award for her dedication to wearing a mask. I love you, queen.”

A third person had even more positive things to say about the Ava star. “Jessica Chastain’s commitment to still wearing a mask is one of the many reasons I love her,” they wrote.

While one viewer at home tweeted: “Jessica Chastain is the only one wearing a mask she’s just like me [for real] I love her.”

Fans suggested that the reason Jessica wore a mask was to protect the cast of the Broadway show she’s currently working with. The 2022 Best Actress Oscar winner is starring on Broadway in the revival of the play A Doll’s House and fans think she wore the mask in consideration of her fellow actors and crew.

One appreciative fan praised Jessica, writing: “I really appreciate Jessica Chastain wearing a mask at the Oscars tonight. I'm presuming it's because she is currently in a Broadway show -- that consideration to the A Doll's House show, its performers/crew, and its audiences is appreciated.”

Similarly, another fan explained: “She is currently headlining a Broadway show that can’t continue performances if she gets covid & it will affect the income of everyone involved. She’s doing what she can to mitigate chances of bringing Covid back to the theatre. These are Equity rules. She’s being a good person.”

As of July 2022, masks are no longer required for audiences at the Hudson Theatre where the play is being performed but is still strongly recommended for audiences.

In recent weeks, Hollywood stars have dropped out of appearances at awards ceremonies this year after testing positive for Covid-19, including Glenn Close, 75, who was meant to appear at Sunday’s Oscars but was unable to. Meanwhile, Michelle Pfeiffer had to skip the Critics Choice Awards in January due to Covid, as did Jamie Lee Curtis.

Attendees at the Oscars this year had to test negative for Covid, Deadline reports.

Jessica joined Halle Berry to present the award for Best Actor after last year’s winner Will Smith was banned from the ceremony.
