Oscar viewers are scratching their heads after watching former One Direction star Liam Payne discuss the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
After the Academy Awards came to a close on Sunday night, all anyone could talk about was Oscar winner Will Smith's decision to get up on stage and 'slap' Chris Rock after the host made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.
When a Good Morning Britain reporter spotted Liam Payne on the red carpet later that night, he asked the singer for his thoughts on the incident. Although Liam had a lot to say about the Oscars fiasco, fans were too distracted by his strange accent.
You can watch a clip below:
The Wolverhampton local appeared to use a combination of different accents as he told cameras: "Will Smith actually used to live behind my house, I've had the pleasure of knowing his son and his daughter very well. We did Men In Black III with him."
Fans of the singer rushed to Twitter to discuss the unusual dialect that Liam picked up, questioning what happened to his natural west midlands voice.
"What happened to his accent??" asked one viewer.
"LIAM BBY IM SO CONFUSED" tweeted a second.
"What is that accent and where did it come from?" a third baffled user wrote.
Trying to sum up Liam's new sound, one fan wrote: "Bit of Welsh, bit of Birmingham, bit of Indian and a bit of Home Counties? Bloody bizarre mixture."
Another amused fan tweeted: "this sounds nothing like liam payne im so confused hahahahahahahaha"
Liam went on to tell Good Morning Britain viewers: "I believe whatever he felt that he did, he had the right to do. I also felt there were three losers in one fight. He didn't know, being Chris Rock, he didn't want to do what he had to do, being Will Smith, and she did nothing, being Jada."
Chris Rock had been taking shots at audience members in attendance at the 94th Academy Awards all night, but things took a turn when he made joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, who has a shaved head.
After suggesting she looked like 'G.I. Jane', the titular character from the 1997 film, Chris was soon face to face with Will Smith, who hit the host before returning to his seat and yelling: "Keep my wife's name out of your f*cking mouth".
The actor apologised to The Academy and his fellow nominees later in the ceremony, during his acceptance speech for Best Actor In A Leading Role, claiming "love will make you do crazy things."
