The full trailer for Downton Abbey, the highly-anticipated movie spin-off to the TV series, has finally been revealed, and it features all the Crawley family preparing for a very special royal visit.

The film, which is due for release on 19 September 2019, picks up in 1927, two years after the end of the last series, when King George V and Queen Mary request a visit to Downton Abbey.

While we don't know much else about the plot, the trailer shows the family anxiously preparing for their prestigious guests, with Lady Mary recruiting the help of retired head butler Carson.

News of the Focus Features production, directed by TV series director Julian Fellowes, was revealed in June 2018.

It was also revealed that all of the original characters members would be returning including Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery), Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith), Lord Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville), Lady Cora Crawley (Elizabeth McGovern), Lady Edith Crawley (Laura Carmichae), Lady Rosamund Painswick (Samantha Bond) and Charles Carson (Jim Carter).

The film will also feature some new cast members including Geraldine James as Queen Mary, Simon Jones as George V, Tuppence Middleton as Lucy, and Imelda Staunton (who is married to Jim Carter aka Charles Carson) as Lady Bagshaw.

The film follows the super successful six series drama, which ran on ITV from 2010 to 2015.

Naturally, fans couldn't get enough of the trailer and shared their excitement online.

One fan wrote "Can't wait!! Six seasons was not enough!" while another gushed, "The trailer made me so emotional".

When asked if a Downton Abbey movie was always planned in a Twitter Q&A, director Julian Fellowes said: "It didn't really cross our minds when doing the series. When we finished, the idea of a film started to form.

"I was keen to bring the theme of a royal visit, where everyone upstairs and downstairs would be on their best behavior. This became the center of the film."

Who's excited?
