American actress Amy Adams has revealed the incredibly personal reason why she refrained from wearing makeup in public for years in a new interview.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Amy, 50, revealed that her daughter had made a very specific request regarding her appearance.
The actress has been married to actor Darren Le Gallo since 2015, and the pair welcomed their daughter Aviana in 2010.

She said: "[Aviana] didn't like me wearing makeup. She's like, 'I just want you to look like Mom, not like Amy Adams'.
"And I was like, 'You got it'. So there were years where I didn't wear makeup wherever we went. I mean, I sneaked some mascara, but yeah, I wouldn't wear makeup because she wanted me to be just mom."
She added: "I will help my daughter get ready. My husband will get ready," says Adams. "I will be helping her, I run around or I braid her hair.

"And I'm always the last person to get ready.... usually [on my end] there's a ponytail involved, maybe a hat, and I think it's been that way since she was born."
Amy continued: “I’m usually the least manicured at my household. But lately, per my daughter’s request, I’m working on an upgrade. She’s like, ‘You can’t wear workout clothes if you’re not working out, Mom. You can’t just do the leisure part of athleisure."
The acclaimed actress - who recently starred in Nightbitch, based off of the novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder - discussed the possibility of her daughter also being part of the film industry when appearing on the chat show Live with Kelly and Mark last week.
She said: "If it feeds her soul and she loves it, I’m here for it. But so far, she has no interest."

Nightbitch stars Amy as Mother, who leaves her life as an artist behind to focus on being a stay at home parent. After adapting a new nightly routine that involves leaving the house, she finds that she sometimes transforms into a canine.
Aviana joined Amy on the red carpet for the debut of Nightbitch at Toronto International Film Festival.
She reflected: “It was really great to share that with her. I just love her."

Amy then gushed: “I get really nervous about public speaking, and she’s never been around me [in those moments]. She was like, ‘Mom, you do this all the time. You got this!’ She was supporting me, it was so sweet.”
