Speaking after the film was released, Ben joked that he felt as though his nude scene was 'overlooked'.

He spoke about the scene during a chat with Sacha Baron Cohen for Variety's 'Actors on Actors' series.

Sacha asked Ben how he felt about being nominated for Best Depiction of Nudity, Sexuality or Seduction by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists.

He asked: “So obviously, you’re a two-time Academy Award winner, a multiple Golden Globe winner, you were nominated for Best Depiction of Nudity, Sexuality or Seduction by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists in Gone Girl. What did that mean to you?”

Ben responded: "I mean, you do so much frontal, you’ve been so naked, and yet you were overlooked."

Sacha joked that the the Alliance of Women Film Journalists maybe 'never saw what I saw in the mirror'.

The naked scene happens when Ben's character, Nick Dunne, is taking a shower towards the end of the movie.

Before Gone Girl even hit cinemas, Ben spoke about viewers getting a glimpse of him naked.

"The penis is in there!" He said to MTV.

"It's IMAX penis! You've gotta pay fifteen bucks to see it in 3D... it's better in 3D."

Ben's ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, who he was married to when Gone Girl was released, also spoke about the scene on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"You're welcome," she said, referring to her giving Ben her blessing to go nude.

"I just try to consider myself a charitable person, and I wanted to give back. You give me so much, I wanted to give something back to all of you."

The mum-of-three added that she didn't mind Ben stripping down in the scene, but she did have concerns about the logistics of it.

She continued: "It wasn't a discussion, it was like, 'Hey, at work today [director David] Fincher talked me into coming out of the shower'.

"And I was like, 'Oh, cool, well, I hope he had on a wide lens'."

Ben also spoke about the filming of the scene, while accepting an award at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards.

He said: "I want to take this opportunity to thank David for the way he treated me. In particular, we had a shower scene in the movie.

"And David assured me, because trust is essential with directors and actors: 'Listen, if we tilt down we will never go far enough to see anything'.

"So, thank you David. And I'd like to thank you for keeping the set cool.

"Because if you are gonna have one chance for America to see your junk you want it to be cold. It's a real gift."
