You’d have thought that, by 2024, men would have realised yelling unsolicited advice at woman in the street doesn’t fly quite as well as they think it does.
But sadly we’re still living in a time when we’re told to ‘Smile, love!’ or – as Emily Ratajkowski recently experienced – even receiving recommendations on what to wear.
Thankfully, she didn’t seem too rattled, and, after managing to capture the exchange on camera, took to social media to shame the stranger.

“Wait for it: man tells me to put on a shirt,” she said in the video, which showed her walking down the street in black trousers and a khaki vest top.
I know, the SCANDAL.
Lo and behold, as she walks across a crossing, a random man can be heard shouting: “Girl, put on a shirt!”

As the clip continues, Ratajkowski starts playing Charli XCX’s ‘365’ – a track from her latest album Brat – over the top.
Specifically, she plays the part where Charli sings: “Who the f**k are you? I’m a brat when I’m bumpin’ that.”
While that hopefully sends a fairly strong message about her thoughts on the matter, to really drive the point home, she added in the post’s caption: “Famously not demure, famously not mindful.”

She is, of course, referencing the latest ‘very demure, very mindful’ trend that’s taken TikTok by storm.
It's a phrase that has swept through the internet recently, as a bit of a satirical joke on how women should act – seemingly poking fun at the influencer minefield of relentless new aesthetics and 'cores' we're all tired to death of seeing, let alone keeping up with ('clean girl', 'cottagecore' and 'soft girl' vibes, we’re looking at you).
It all kicked off when TikToker Jools Lebron, who goes by the handle @joolieannie online, posted a video titled 'how to be demure at work', which went on to rack up millions of views.
Since then, they've shared a whole bunch of videos following the same format including 'how to apply deodorant in a demure way', 'how to pick up your ID you left at a gay bar in a very demure way' and 'how to be demure when you're hungover and have to go to CVS'.

Speaking to CBC News about the trend, Lebron explained: “Your demure is what it means to you. It’s being mindful and considerate of the people around you, but also of yourself and how you present to the world.”
