In a courageous new update, Canadian singer Grimes has revealed she's been diagnosed with two neurodevelopmental conditions.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday (21 Mar), the mother-of-three announced that she was told by medics recently that she has both autism and ADHD, claiming the revelation made complete sense to her.
Grimes, 37, broke the news by re-tweeting a post by another social media user, which read, 'i saw a TikTok of how excessive reading in childhood is a sign of dissociation and i can't stop thinking about it'.

She then shared her own experience with dissociation - a mental process where a person disconnects from their thoughts, feelings, memories, or sense of identity, according to Better Health.

"I have to say, there's this subculture of I guess 'mental health' accounts that I actually think are like, extreme infohazards," the musician began.
"Got diagnosed w adhd/ autism this year and realized I'm prob dyslexic which is why I can't spell at all without spellcheck.

"I feel like, had we known this when I was a child I would have worked so much less hard, been on drugs, and so many of the weird obsessions and motivations I had would have been seen as pathological and I could have written off certain things that were very hard for me but I'm glad I over came them.
"Prob wud have been drugged too."
Grimes - who shares three children, including eldest son X Æ A-12, often nicknamed 'X', with former flame Elon Musk - went on to make a series of controversial comments about mental wellbeing and learning difficulties.
As well as claiming 'mental illness' can 'be contagious', she insisted there has been a spike in 'self-diagnosing'.

"Also I feel a huge percentage of adhd is screen addiction and dopaminergic burn out," she went on.
Discussing her ADHD, the star (real name Claire Elise Boucher) claimed her symptoms were 'infinitely worse when I wasn't an avid reader', attempting to bring the conversation back to the original post she shared.
"An adhd account trying to pathologize one of the best things a child can do to help with adhd (and also become an auto didact and knowledgeable person etc etc) is so dark.... I can't even begin.

"I think the nature of this uninformed social media mental health subculture is rly a big concern. Some are great ofc but a lot of these seem like explicitly anti civilizational and geared towards making people worse."
And after a fan queried her views, Grimes then added in the comments: "I just think unsupervised medical advice and proliferation of info about symptoms is a very tricky thing."
