In recent weeks, singer Katy Perry has inadvertently sparked speculation that she's actually JonBenét Ramsey - a six-year-old girl that was brutally murdered in 1996.
In fact, the bonkers theory took off to such an extent that the 40-year-old has been forced to address the secret identity rumours, and this week, she released a controversial social media comment on the matter.
For those out of the loop, there has been baseless talk of a hidden connection between California hit-maker Perry and murdered child pageant star Ramsey for several years now.
The Colorado youngster's body was discovered in the basement of her family home in December 1996. Her skull had been fractured, and a garrote was found tied around her neck.

Though her death was classed as a homicide, no killer has ever been brought to justice.
This tragic reality, however, has meant that the case has long been considered 'open' for many true crime fanatics, with many since having suggested that Ramsey is still out there somewhere alive. Or, apparently, making hit records under the stage name 'Katy Perry'.
More recently, an AI-generated video of the mother-of-one went viral on social media, showing an infant Ramsey slowly morphing into an adult Perry. The post - which was set to her 2012 track 'Wide Awake' was captioned: "Wake up ppl."
The comments also read, 'iykyk', meaning, 'if you know, you know'.
In a surprising twist of fate, however, Perry - who shares a four-year-old daughter with actor husband Orlando Bloom - this week responded to the wild theory. Taking to the comments, she penned: "Wait, am I?"

Naturally, the remark has sparked mass debate online. Many have seemingly found the lightheartedness in Perry's choice of words, with one writing on social media: "lmao this is amazing."
Another added, 'this is my roman empire', whilst a third went on to jibe, 'omg mystery solved'.
"omg the queen hath spoken," another continued.
Some critics, however, have since slammed the star for her lack of sensitivity on the matter.

"no please don’t joke like this. The little girl was murdered and her family destroyed," one begged. Another added: "KP, that is disgusting. If you’re going to encourage this and not offer proof….how could you?!"

A third went on: "this is psychotic Katy, someone's child died."
The controversy comes just weeks after Ramsey's father, John Ramsey, issued a plea to police, imploring with them to retest all the initial evidence they collated when his daughter's body was first found.

Speaking to the Mail, the 81-year-old focused on one woman's claim that her ex-lover might be the killer, as well as the unidentified male DNA found on the child's underwear and beneath her fingernails.
"DNA technology has advanced dramatically since the last round of testing was done in the mid-2000s," he told the publication.
"If it doesn’t work then I’ll praise the police for trying everything they could [...] but, to me, it’s just so obvious where the police's time needs to be spent."
