All eyes were on Kendrick Lamar during his hotly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show performance on Sunday, and not just because fans wanted to see if he would actually perform that song.
The California rapper, 37, has been embroiled in a feud with Drake, 38, for years but their beef reached new heights last year. It was game over once Lamar released his chart-topping and Grammy-winning diss track ‘Not Like Us’ in which he accuses the ‘One Dance’ rapper of being a ‘certified p**dophile’. Understandably, people were on the edge of their seats to witness Lamar call out his nemesis on the world’s biggest stage (spoiler alert, he did).

But something else about Lamar’s headlining slot on Sunday captured viewers’ attention. We’re not talking about his political statements, Drake jabs or guest stars, it was... his jeans.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning musician styled by Taylor McNeill and he wore Y2K-style, flared bootcut Celine jeans.
It seems flares are very much in and baggy cargo trousers — a staple in Gen Z fashion — are on their way out. Louis Vuitton’s models walked down the runway in different styles of flared trousers in a collection called 'dandy streetwear' and Pharrell Williams has also been spotted wearing flared jeans, at Paris Fashion Week last month.
These trousers were hugely popular in the 1970s and 2000s specifically, but have been looked back on as being women’s fashion. The Y2K resurgence of flares has made people think they’re purely for Hannah Montana and Britney Spears, this is despite men also rocking them in the swinging sixties and the funky seventies.

The Compton-born musician’s jeans flared at the knee and dragged beneath his heels, creating a unique silhouette that stood out in contrast to his collaborator and producer Mustard who opted for oversized jeans.
Reactions to Lamar’s bell bottoms have been mixed. “Can’t believe Kendrick did all that in the most Hannah Montana-lookin’ bootcut jeans I’ve seen in years,” one social media user on X quipped.
“Kendrick had on his early 2000s Britney Spears bootcut jeans IKTR,” another spectator gushed.

A third X user wrote: “Take note of Kendrick Lamar’s jeans. That is the perfect jean and the perfect amount of flare for a guy. Make this more a thing. I want to see this more often. I think they look great and it’s masculine.”
A fourth wrote: “I think Kendrick Lamar’s jeans are the real MVP. Love the cut.”
Who would have thought a pair of jeans would steal the show!
