Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are known for their slightly unconventional relationship, which they’re more than happy to share the dirt on.
The couple – who are parents to daughters Lincoln, 11, and Delta, nine – have spoken out about everything from locking their youngest child’s bedroom door after she ‘decided to stop sleeping’ to the ‘waiting for the stink’ approach to hygiene.
But while some of their choices might seem a little unusual, there’s often method to the madness.

In fact, the pair are usually more than happy to defend themselves to prove a point.
Bell, 44, recently appeared on The View, taking fans back to the early days of her relationship with Shepard.
Host Sunny Hostin asked about how Shepard had previously mentioned a time when he ‘took the gum’ that Bell had been chewing and ‘put it in his own mouth’.

“Now, that move really divided the hosts, the audience as well,” she said.
“Did that gross you out at the time or is it hot?”
Bell replied: “Let me start with the fact that, that’s not meant to create a divide.
“He didn’t ask you to take his gum, did he? Okay, then there really shouldn’t be a divide about this. It was an experience we had.”

She continued: “I personally thought it was very cute and it was the indicator, after we had been talking and chatting for a while and I was like, ‘Oh this guy’s kinda cute and special.’ And the I guess I was being flirty and took it out of my mouth and then he took it. And I was like, ‘well…’ I said, ‘Understood.’”
When Ava Navarro asked how long she’d been chewing it, and what the flavour was, Bell responded dryly: “Two, three days and it had no flavor."
In another interview with Real Simple last year, Bell revealed no topic is out of bounds with their kids - including drugs.

Shepard, 49, has been open about his sobriety journey, having told Playboy in 2012 that he’d been a ‘heavy smoker, heavy drinker, drug addict, terrible eater, and philanderer’ between the ages of 18 and 29.
And they feel it’s important that their children aren’t in the dark about this.
"I know it's shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs and the fact that their daddy is an addict and he's in recovery, and we talk about sex," Bell explained.
"There are all these 'hard topics' that don't have to be if you give the person on the other end your vulnerability and a little bit of credit."

She added: "I hate the word 'taboo.' I think it should be stricken from the dictionary. There should be no topic that's off the table for people to talk about."
