Sad reason you’ll often see Morgan Freeman wearing one singular glove

Sad reason you’ll often see Morgan Freeman wearing one singular glove

The legendary Hollywood actor has previously opened up about the trauma behind his unusual accessory.

Morgan Freeman might have been sporting a glove on his left hand for years, but some people are only realising the heartbreaking reason now.

Despite being 87 years old, Freeman apparently has no desire to put the breaks on his 60-year acting career.

Currently, the star has four films in the works; Now You See Me 3, Dimitri Logothetis’ Gunner, The Little Bedroom and Revelations Entertainment’s Hate to See You Go.

As well as reams of acting credits including 2023’s A Good Person and 2004's Million Dollar Baby, Freeman has one Oscar, a singular Golden Globe as well as a prestigious Screen Actors Guild gong in his collection.

Last year, the Tennessee native attended the 95th Academy Awards with Margot Robbie, 34, to mark 100 years of Warner Brothers Studios.

However, fans were shocked to see him on stage wearing what appeared to be an elbow-length black glove.

His appearance sent social media into meltdown, but it turns out Freeman’s been wearing the compression accessory for some time.

This is due to being involved in a major car accident in 2008.

At the time of the crash, the actor had been driving near his home in Charleston, Mississippi, when his vehicle flipped over multiple times.

According to a report by The Guardian, Freeman and a female companion were cut free from the car by emergency workers and were airlifted over 90 miles to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Due to his sustained injuries, the father-of-four was forced to undergo four hours worth of surgery and was left with permanent nerve damage and shoulder pain.

Freeman’s limbs began to swell as a result of the injury and he has worn a compression glove to keep the blood flowing ever since.

Speaking in 2010 about his horrific injury, the Dark Knight star said: “If you don’t move your hand, it will swell up. Do you know you move your hand about a million times a day?”

He later told Esquire that his fibromyalgia had been impacted by the car injury, with the shoulder pain shooting ‘up and down’ his arm.

Of course, the 2023 Oscars isn’t the only time Freeman has been spotted sporting the compression glove.

He famously attended the 2022 FIFA men's Qatar World Cup opening ceremony at the Al Bayut Stadium wearing it.

More recently walked the red carpet at the Monte Carlo TV festival wearing a nude version, which is pictured above, and it was also on show at April’s edition of the TCM Classic Film Festival.
