The actor Emma Dumont has officially come out as a trans masculine non-binary person and has changed their name.

Staying true to yourself can be a difficult task when there is so much pressure to conform to the norms of society, but there are a select few who break the mould and want to live as they believe is true to themselves.

For example, the world watched on as Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page) told the world that he identified as a transgender man, and was met with resounding support throughout his journey from his fans and colleagues on The Umbrella Academy.

Now, he is living his life on his terms, and appears to be happier than ever.

Comparatively, Dumont is also choosing to live as their own person.

The Oppenheimer actor’s representatives confirmed to TMZ that the star is making some changes.

Not only have they changed their name, but they have changed their pronouns too.

While they will continue to use their birth name professionally, their publicist shared that they will go by a different name in their personal life.

Dumont changed their pronouns and their name on Instagram recently, revealing that they now go by ‘they/them’ rather than ‘she/her’.

According to their reps, ‘they identify as a trans masculine non-binary person’.

The publicist continued, revealing their new name: "Their work name is still going to be Emma Dumont, but they will go by Nick with friends and family."

Dumont, who played Jackie Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's 2023 blockbuster drama, also added the name ‘Nick’ to their social media profiles.

While there hasn’t been many clues to predict that a shift was coming, in May, they showed of a short haircut, after having previously worn their hair long.

Fans immediately fell in love with their hair style, telling them that they looked ‘indie’ and ‘sassy’.

"Love the hair you look so cuute," a fan wrote.

Underneath a recent post, someone commented: “I'm getting the cool lead singer-guitar player is a hip indie band thing on an unofficial solo tour for the sake of it vibes from this set and I'm loving it”.

How this will affect their choice to play certain roles on screen is unknown.

Dumont previously starred in TV series such as The Gifted and Aquarius, and the horror movie Wrong Turn.

Currently, they are waiting for their next release for the horror film New Me.

The actor’s role in Oppenheimer is one of their most significant roles in their career, and what a film it was to be part of.

After its release, the film went on to win big at the 2024 Oscars, cinching first place in seven categories.

While there was some speculation that the historical inaccuracies in the flick would affect the film scoring of the Academy Awards, it turned out that the fear was for nothing.

Filmmaker Neil Chase told The Mirror at the time: "Historical inaccuracies play little to no part in the decision-making process when it comes to the winning categories."

He added: "The Academy consistently chooses fiction over fact."
