Ryan Gosling gives sweet tribute to wife Eva Mendes in acceptance speech during award show

The Barbie star gave a special shout-out to his wife

It's not uncommon for big-name stars to issue gushy tributes to their beloved other-halves during acceptance speeches at prestigious award shows.

And one star that's certainly not a stranger to a heart-warming shout-out to his beloved spouse is Barbie actor Ryan Gosling.

Back in 2017, the Canadian mega-star left his fans in tears after dedicating the Best Actor award he was presented at the Golden Globes for his performance in La La Land to his fellow actor wife, Eva Mendes.

Gosling, 43, previously thanked his 'lady' for 'raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer' whilst he filmed the romantic musical.

He said at the time: "If she hadn't taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here."

And now, six years later, the Hollywood favourite has sent fans into a frenzy once again after accepting the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film during last night's Critics Choice Awards with a romantic speech for his wife, who got together on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines back in 2013.

"Most importantly, I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, and have two dream children," the Barbie star said of his long-time stint in the spotlight.

"I dreamed of one day making movies, and now movies have made my life a dream."

Gosling - who with Mendes, 49, shares daughters Esmeralda, nine, and Amada, seven - went on to say: "So the way I see it, there’s no way I’ve contributed half as much to cinema as cinema has contributed to me.

"But the idea that I might have given something back to the thing that has given so much to me is too great an honour for me to express."

It wasn't just the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film that Gosling walked away with during last night's star-studded soiree, however.

In fact, the on-screen favourite had a pretty hilarious reaction when 'I'm Just Ken' from Barbie landed him the award for Best Original Song.

As opposed to bursting into a wide-eyed smile when his name was called out to receive the award, he appeared a mix between horrified and baffled.

Gosling then opted to cooly lift an eyebrow and look around at his co-attendees in amazement.

However, instead of heading up to the stage when his name was called, the Notebook star remained sat whilst writers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt accepted the award instead.

Gosling appeared confused by the win.

But credit was given where credit was due as Ronson said that, without Gosling, the song wouldn't have hit the heights that it did.

He said from the stage: "Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours.

"You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you."

N'aww!
