You'd think donating your kidney to a friend in need would strengthen the connection between you.
In the case of Selena Gomez and her gal pal Francia Raisa, however, nothing could have been further from the truth.
For those unfamiliar with the emotional story of their scandalous fall-out, all the way back in 2017, Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena opened up on her battle with lupus.

That same year, she took a step back from the world of showbiz, later attributing her break to a kidney transplant procedure she'd undergone, with the help of her long-term best friend Francia, who kindly donated the organ she so needed.
"I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery," actor Selena wrote on Instagram at the time.
"And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me."
Despite the gushy remarks, just six years after their life-changing double-surgery, the BFFs' relationship appeared to have totally fallen apart.

In 2022, on-screen star Selena gave a rather controversial interview with Rolling Stone, in which she declared the only person she was properly close to in the industry was Taylor Swift.
The remark certainly did not go down well with fellow actor Francia, who commented 'interesting' in response to the interview on social media.
She also later unfollowed Selena off of the platform altogether, before her ex-pal responded herself, penning, 'Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know', on TikTok.

From then on, How I Met Your Father star Francia has claimed she was relentlessly trolled by fans of 'Good For You' hitmaker Selena.
Speaking to USA Today this week, the actor admitted she was shocked by how intrigued Selena's followers were in the fallout and didn't expect so many to take her side.
"It's still crazy to me that people were invested in our friendship," she confessed.
Interestingly, however, Francia went on to reveal that she and her former friend have since reconciled, and are now in frequent contact.

Opening up on their disagreement, she confessed: "I don't know why the timing happened the way it did, but I remember being in St. Tropez in June and I kept talking about her.
"We hadn't spoken much in six years. Especially the last year, we didn't speak at all.
"We've never really had beef with each other. Nothing happened, and if you ask either of us, we don't know what happened but we needed that time apart.

"She reached out and said, 'Let's talk'."
Francia went on to admit: "We've never really had beef with each other.
"Nothing happened, and if you ask either of us, we don't know what happened but we needed that time apart.
"Then when you come back together, you're better people."
"She and I are still getting to know each other again. And obviously, you know, I gave the girl a kidney so everyone felt a certain way.
"And I was asked for years and years and years, 'Do you regret it?' and I was like, 'No, the relationship has always been there.'
"There was just a tiff."
