Sex and the City star Kristin Davis reveals unusual oral sex question she got asked on set

The actress appeared as Charlotte York in all seasons of the programme, as well as the two films and spin-off show

Kristin Davis and one of her Sex and the City co-stars were once asked ‘how they felt’ about performing fellatio on men, according to the actress herself.

In 1998, 60-year-old Kristin made her debut in the seminal HBO TV series as Charlotte York - a conservative voice of reason fixated on romance and finding her ‘knight in shining armour’.

Charlotte, whose best friends included protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), had some of the most memorable moments on the long-running programme.

These included her two marriages, fighting a woman because she ‘stole’ her baby's name, and even giving away her engagement ring so her friend could buy her apartment.

While working on Sex and the City - which ran for 94 episodes across six seasons - Kristin and Cynthia, 58, were reportedly asked how they felt about giving oral sex by the show’s creators, Darren Star and Michael Patrick King.

The conversation took place before episode, The Monogamists, where Charlotte refuses to perform oral sex on her new boyfriend, Michael Conway (Jack Koenig), which results in him leaving her.

“Cynthia had remembered that when that episode was happening,” Kristin said during an episode of her rewatch podcast, Are You a Charlotte?.

“That Darren and Michael Patrick came to us independently, each one of us, and said, ‘You know, how do you guys feel about b******s? Because we’re trying to write this, but we realised that we’re gay men and you guys are straight women. Can you share with us your thoughts?’

“I guess we all said our different things,” she told podcast guest Oliver Hudson, 48, who plays Lyle in the Sex and the City spin-off, And Just Like That….

“And I know that I didn’t say that I didn’t like it, because I wouldn’t really say that.

“I might have said, ‘I don’t like someone pushing my head down,’ because definitely who likes that? Nobody, as far as I know.

“But I didn’t remember that either.”

The star went on to say that she understands some people have different sexual preferences to others, remarking: “You have to figure out the person that you’re with and whether you were into that.

“Like with Charlotte in this particular episode apparently, which I have forgotten.

“Charlotte doesn’t like to give b******s,” she continued. “Which I think she gets over.”

Kristin’s proclamation that her character has changed her mind about oral sex comes after a And Just Like That scene that sees Charlotte initiating fellatio on her husband and divorce attorney, Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler).

“She’s in this incredible relationship with Harry and there is a scene in And Just Like That… involving a prosthetic with [oral sex] that she is 100 percent willing and initiates and is into,” she added.

“So thank God she got over whatever that was.”

It’s understood And Just Like That… is expected to return to screens this year for a third outing.
