Sometimes it's hard to predict what will be big on Netflix, which prides itself on catering to each and every taste - from true crime documentaries to star-studded rom-coms.

Yep, every now and again, a show comes along that becomes an instant obsession for many viewers, proving to be an overnight cult hit.

Many food programmes fall into that bracket fairly easily, being comforting, easy watches that are way too easy to binge.

After all, who tuned in to Is It Cake? assuming you'd turn off after 10 minutes, only to find yourself shouting at the TV at 3am, eight episodes deep?

It turns out even those of you who didn't think you gave a toss about food and drink can soon get sucked in - wondering where Phil Rosenthal is off to on his latest foodie adventure in Somebody Feed Phil, or checking out the competition in Snack Vs Chef.

But arguably one of the biggest sleeper hits in recent years is the mouthwateringly meaty Barbecue Showdown, which, it turns out, has even converted veggies.

The hit Netflix series follows a group of amateur barbecue cooks as they face off in a series of challenges set by world-class BBQ judges Melissa Cookston and Kevin Bludso.

Hosted by actor and comedian Michelle Buteau, the show follows each stage of the process, from concept through to taste test, as we find out who will be crowned the next great pitmaster.

And the good news is that it's now back for a brand new series, with Netflix bringing us a tasty 4 July treat with season three.

One excited fan wrote on X: "BARBECUE SHOWDOWN IS BACK???? sorry but this is important to me."

Someone else said: "Barbecue Showdown is cinema."

A third admitted: "I’m a vegetarian and i’m obsessed with #barbecueshowdow."

A fourth added: "Happy Barbecue Showdown Series 3 Day to all of those who celebrate."

Since it first premiered in 2020, it's had loyal fans binging entire series in one sitting, with many saying it's a hugely 'underrated' watch.

One previously tweeted: "Really hooked on barbecue showdown and I can’t believe how intense the barbecue community is."

Another agreed: "On Wednesday night I accidentally watched the Barbecue Showdown on Netflix until 3am and the past two nights I’ve dreamt about meat and desserts and I feel so certain that I could just be a barbecue show master despite not really being the designated barbecuer ever."

One other said: "Barbecue Showdown is the most underrated series."
