Netflix viewers have nothing but positive things to say about the spy thriller that’s just made it's debut on the streaming platform.

The six-part series has finally been released today (5 December) and it's clear that the hype is already high on it given the extremely impressive 100 per cent score on the Tomatometer.

Boasting a star-studded cast featuring the likes of Pride and Prejudice's Keira Knightley and Skyfall's Ben Whishaw, the series is set in London at Christmas and the Love Actually star takes on the role of a mother-of-one named Helen, who also works as a professional spy.

Helen (Knightley) has spent the last decade passing on the secrets told by her politician husband (Andrew Buchan) to a mysterious organisation known as the Black Doves.

It isn't just her elusive profession that she's kept away from her family, however, but a secret lover named Jason (Andrew Koji).

When her secret beau is tragically assassinated, her hard-faced boss - played by Happy Valley legend Sarah Lancashire - calls in one of Helen's oldest pals, Sam (Whishaw) to help keep her identity protected.

Whilst setting out to find out who murdered her lover and why, the pair inadvertently discover a colossal conspiracy linking London's criminal underworld to the political minds running the country.

The series, dubbed by Netflix's social media as their early 'Christmas present' to us, is none other than Black Doves and you can watch the official tinsel-and-bullet-filled trailer here:

Over on X (formerly Twitter), people were loving Black Doves, as one user beamed: "Netflix's Black Doves is the best spy franchise since James Bond."

A second praised: "Netflix’s Black Doves starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, blends espionage, action, and holiday cheer into a fast-paced, darkly funny thriller."

A fourth reviewed: "I'm several episodes in and enjoying Black Doves so far. It's a spy thriller series that's quick-paced, action-packed and filled with mystery. Plus, the characters and story feel fresh and interesting."

"Black Doves is amazing," echoed a fifth, while another chimed in: "Black Doves is out miss knightley I’m only here for you!"

A sixth social media user quipped: "Black Doves with a 100% score on RT? I better not hate it after."

Meanwhile, a final viewer thought it was so good that it 'tore down' their 'Top 10 Shows of the Year', adding: " I’ve got to tear this list down and rebuild it because Joe Barton [the creator] has knocked it outta the park once again."

Well, I guess you'll simply have to watch the series and see for yourself if it lives up to the hype.

Black Doves is currently available to stream on Netflix.
