A new Netflix manga adaptation is garnering praise from viewers, with many hoping the streaming service greenlights a second season as soon as possible.
Live-action anime and manga adaptations are slowly but surely becoming Netflix’s bread and butter.
In 2017, Fullmetal Alchemist was brought to life alongside Death Note while 2018 brought Bleach and Kakegurui to the platform.

Since then, fans have gone wild for One Piece, Avatar: The Last Airbender and now a six-part sci-fi horror programme has captivated subscribers.
The show in question has a rare 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and is being hailed as ‘gripping’ by fans.
If your interest is well and truly piqued, then get a load of the trailer for Parasyte: The Grey below:
Based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s popular manga series Parasyte, the live-action spin-off chronicles a team-up between Jeong Su-in (played by Jeon So-nee) and Seol Kang-woo (Koo Kyo-hwan) as they work to stop parasites from invading the Earth.

However, it’s worth noting the season differs from the manga as Parasyte: The Grey is set in a South Korean city called Namil-gun.
Meanwhile, Hitoshi’s series takes place in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan.
Don’t fret though as 64-year-old Hitoshi has confirmed that the Netflix series still takes place in the same universe as his beloved horror series.
Speaking about the creative decision, the manga artist told Netflix Tudum: “This new story taking place in a different location will lead us into a world beyond my imagination.”

And while the setting may be different, Shinichi Izumi (Masaki Suda), a Japanese teenager who coexists with a parasite called Migi, features in both in the original manga and the TV adaptation.
Interestingly, the Korean show resides in the body snatcher genre, according to director Yeon Sang-ho.
“In terms of genre, we call it ‘body snatcher genre’,” he explained. “Body snatcher basically means that these beings that we know to be very ordinary turn out to be something completely different… [Parasyte: The Grey] really deals with that intense horror of finding that out.”

Other popular body-snatcher projects include 2016’s Braindead, Severance on AppleTV+ and Locke & Key.
Following its initial release in April 2024, fans have been going wild for Parasyte: The Grey.
Many are demanding that the streaming giant commission a sequel, while others want fellow subscribers to give it a spin.
Taking to social media to have their say, one fan recently remarked: “I need season 2 IMMEDIATELY."

A second echoed: “Parasyte is one of my favorite animes and I just watched Parasyte: The Grey on Netflix and the ending is so goooddddd I hope they continue it.”
“Parasyte: The Grey. A Korean Netflix series adapted from a comic. If you loved Sweet Home, you’ll enjoy this too,” penned someone else. “Can’t wait for second season. 8/10.”
“Just finished watching Parasyte: The Grey on Netflix, and I must say, it's quite a compelling watch,” commented another user.
“With only 6 episodes, the series is short yet gripping. The story, though not entirely new, is presented in a way that keeps you hooked, always wanting to know what happens next.”
“Done watching PARASYTE: THE GREY After a long time watching a good Netflix original series,” remarked a fifth fan. “I just loved this one! As usual I'm guessing there'll be a 2nd season and if there is I hope they make it good as the 1st one.”
Despite fans begging for a second outing, it has not yet been confirmed whether season two of Parasyte: The Grey has been greenlit by Netflix.
However, if the Rotten Tomatoes ratings are anything to go off, we can bet it’s just a waiting game.
All episodes of Parasyte: The Grey are available to stream on Netflix now.
