Chilling real answers serial killer gave on dating show compared to Netflix recreation in Woman of the Hour

Rodney Alcala - otherwise known as the 'Dating Game Killer' - appeared on a match-making show amid his crime spree

It's the Netflix thriller on everybody's lips, and viewers of No. 1 blockbuster Woman of the Hour still can't get their heads around the fact that the entire charade is based of an entirely true, gory story.

And among the countless questions fans of the star-studded flick have raised since finishing it, are what real-life serial murderer Rodney Alcala was really asked by potential love interests during an appearance on a televised blind date show.

If you haven't yet sank your teeth into this eerie film, you mightn't have a clue what a convicted mass murderer might have to do with a dating series.

Well, worry not - we're here to fill you in on all the need-to-knows about the 'Dating Game Killer', who is understood to have murdered around 130 US women, as well as attacking several others.

The true story behind Netflix's Woman of the Hour

In the midst of his killing spree and unbeknownst to the cops, Rodney Alcala appeared on a popular match-matching TV show in a bid to 'find romance'.

Whilst on the show, he was paired with contestant Cheryl Bradshaw, who in reality - thankfully - became concerned about the 'creepy' man she'd been set up with and cancelled the date.

Only in recent weeks has light been shone onto Alcala's TV appearance - as well as his heinous crimes - after Netflix's true-crime recreation.

Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick directs and stars in Woman of the Hour, which has left viewers both transfixed by the bizarre turn of events, and horrified by the real crimes.

And as we say, one of the most hotly-discussed aspects of the film has left viewers wondering with Alcala was really like during his dating show appearance, as well as what relationship questions he was asked by potential beau Cheryl.

So, without further ado, let's get into it...

Rodney Alcala's appearance on The Dating Game

According to real footage, Cheryl first of all asked Alcala (who was 'Bachelor number one'): "What's your best time?"

He replied: "The best time is at night, night time. Because that's the only time there is."

Then, after being asked what his problem is with either morning or afternoon, he answered back: "Well, they're OK, but night time is when it really gets good, then you're really ready."

Next up, Alcala was prompted by Cheryl to take part in some roleplay.

After she told him, 'I'm a drama teacher and I'm going to audition each of you for my private class', and instructed him, 'Bachelor number one, you're a dirty old man. Take it away', he made a series of grunting noises.

"Oh, come on over here," he said in reality, before proceeding to growl.

Later, Cheryl asked: "I'm serving you for dinner. What are you called and what do you look like?"

Alcala joked: "I'm called the banana and I look really good."

Then, asked being prompted to be a little more descriptive, he instructed her: "Peel me."

What happened to Cheryl Bradshaw and Rodney Alcala?

As we say, while the film shows Cheryl sharing a drink with Alcala following the conclusion of the dating series - after being paired with him - during which she becomes increasingly concerned by his behaviour, in reality, the real-life actress claims she had bad feelings about 'creepy' Alcala much earlier.

Cheryl later told a show's producer she felt uncomfortable going on the date.

Alcala, from Texas, was later found guilty of eight murders across California, New York and Wyoming between 1971 and 1979, but it’s thought he may have killed more than 100 others.

He died in prison in 2021, having had a previous death sentence overturned.
