Actress who used deceased son's sperm to have his daughter via surrogate gives major update

Ana Obregón welcomed her son's daughter - now aged two - via surrogate

An actress who used her son's sperm to have a baby has given an update on her little one.

Spanish star Ana Obregón welcomed a baby via surrogate using her deceased son's sperm after he sadly passed away from an aggressive form of cancer years earlier.

Ana, now 70, welcomed her granddaughter, Anita Sandra, at the age of 68, explaining that the baby was conceived using a donor egg and his frozen sperm.

Ana explained that she was fulfilling the wishes of her late son, Aless Lequio, who passed away in 2020.

She told ¡Hola! Magazine: "The girl isn't my daughter, she's my granddaughter."

She later added that her home is filled with toys, explaining: "I even have a little ball pool where she makes me dive in."

Obregón told the publication that her son had always wanted to father a child but was sadly unable to tick parenthood off his bucket list before his devastating passing five years ago.

"We live our whole lives saying that we are eternal and nothing happens here," she added. "Suddenly, one day they tell you at 25 years old that you have an aggressive cancer.

"You think, that's not what they told you when you were little. So I have many more fears [with Ana], more than when I had Aless."

Aless died at the age of 27 after being diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer.

Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in tissues of the body, such as bone, cartilage, tendons, fat and muscle.

Ana admitted she had been 'dead for three years' but her granddaughter's arrival has 'resurrected' her.

"I know I'll never feel the happiness I had when Aless was with me again,' she told ¡Hola!. "That pain will never go away. You don't accept or get over the death of a child.

"You end up accepting that you'll never be able to come to terms with their departure.

"Fortunately, Anita now fills my days. I was dead for three years from Aless' death until Anita was born.

"She's just as intelligent as her dad.

"She's always asking me for hugs, but not for herself, but so I can hug those around us.

"The other day the plumber came.. And I ended up hugging him because she asked me to."

Anita being born via surrogacy was not an easy process, especially as in Spain, surrogacy is illegal.

However, as the toddler was born in the US, she could be adopted by Ana legally.

It hasn't stopped criticism however, with Irene Montero, Spain's equality minister, calling surrogacy 'a form of violence against women'.

Responding the backlash she has received, Ana explained: "There are criticisms and judgments. People can be judged, but it's impossible to live without empathy.

"I believe that when fathers and mothers put themselves in my shoes and in my soul, in my pain... As I say, I was the owner of my pain. Now, I am the owner of my revival."
