Desperate Housewives fans work out ‘the real villain’ of the show and it isn’t Edie Britt

Desperate Housewives viewers have pieced together clues to work it out

Rewatching a TV series can give you a whole new perspective, and that's exactly what's happened with Desperate Housewives as fans all point out the same thing.

For anyone who loved the iconic TV series, which was on air from 2004 until 2012, the eight seasons showed the lives and romances of Susan Mayer, Lynette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp, Gabrielle Solis and Edie Britt.

For many of us on our first watch, we were firmly Team Susan and saw Edie as the bad guy.

Yet actually it seems Susan is the real villain here, at least according to fans of the show.

Writing on Reddit, one TV fan pointed out: "Let's begin with the most horrifyingly vile character on the show. This woman is the worst of the worst.

"She's the biggest hypocrite who hurts and lies and connives anyone she chooses to without a second thought and often times no remorse whatsoever. I am, of course, talking about Susan."

The post continues as it highlights examples of how badly behaved Susan is as they wrote: "She hooks up with Carl while he's with Edie, she steals Mike from Katherine and drives her to a mental breakdown, she does things to sabotage her friends for her own personal gain."

The post ends: "A lot of the other characters are flawed, so very flawed, but Susan is the only one who has been consistently the same useless piece of s*** person from season one all the way to the end of season eight.

"She does not evolve one bit and her character is consistently one of the worst people in the real-world drama genre of television."

Others have replied on the thread, with many in agreement.

One person responded: "Agree and agree. I’ve just started watching it from the start and although Susan seems like she means well , the hypocrisy of her actions is astounding! She’s so annoying. I just watched an episode where Julie decides to sing I’m Church for the first time accompanied by Edie and she makes Julie feel so guilty about it! Not to mention she cheats on Mike whilst he’s in a coma."

Another shared: "I agree! I’m on season 8 and how I wish the wives would turn on her and send her to jail."

"Susan is one of the most vile villains on the show. She jumps from one man to another, breaking hearts and expecting them all to accept her frivilous actions," wrote a third. "Doesn't say much about all the men involved with her. Cheapens their characters. Susan seems to just be on the show to be a s***. Edie has more character."

They're not the only ones who think this, as more posts on social media appeared to point out Susan as the ultimate villain in the series.

One person pointed out on Twitter: "I’ve watched every season of Desperate Housewives more than 5 times and the more I watch it the more I realise that Susan is the most annoying self centred character."

Another shared: "SUSAN DELFINO WAS THE TRUE VILLIAN ON DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES!"

"They tried to paint Edie Britt as the neighbourhood b*tch but it’s actually Susan. Edie found out Susan burnt her house down and said “just invite me to your poker nights” did Susan invite her?" said a third.

Now Desperate Housewives might not be new, but it's definitely worth a rewatch - even just to see if Susan is the real villain or not.
