Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Hundreds of film fans up and down the country are currently gearing up to watch Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlton, and Nigel Kipling make their gallant return in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is finally out in cinemas from today (1 May).

The chick-flick, serving as the official sequel to the 2006 American comedy-drama film, sees director David Frankel return to the helm and new faces, such as Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, and The Office’s B. J. Novak, joining the DWP-verse.

But one actor from the original 20th Century Studios film is notably absent in the sophomore outing - and Frankel has revealed why.

Two decades after the events of The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway’s character Andy returns to the hallowed halls of Runway Magazine to salvage the reputation of editor Miranda (played by Meryl Streep) amid a puff piece fallout.

When the duo head to Dior, they come face-to-face with one of Miranda’s former assistants, Emily (Emily Blunt) - and the whole gang is (momentarily) back together again.

But it isn’t exactly plain sailing.

Miranda and Emily are still navigating tension two decades later, and the ever-changing media landscape is threatening to end Runway’s tenure at the top, forcing Andy to cook up a scheme to save the magazine, which naturally goes haywire.

The Devil Wear’s Prada 2 currently has a solid 79 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, with fans awarding it a 3.5 average star rating on Letterboxd.

But something that a lot of fans have noticed is that amid the returning faces, actor Adrian Grenier failed to appear.

“So I actually liked Nate u guys just don't get it,” one X user typed.

Another said: “No one wanted him or their friends back dafuq?!”

“A Nate spin-off... the world waits with baited breath,” said someone else.

In case you cannot remember, the 49-year-old portrayed Andy’s boyfriend Nate in the original film.

At the end, they go their seperate ways, with Nate moving to Boston to persue his chef dreams.

According to Frankel, Grenier doesn’t feature because of production conflicts.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker said: “I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen.”

The Entourage favourite has issued a statement on his Devil Wears Prada 2 absence, telling Page Six: “We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we were in it.

“Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel. But I also understand there was some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in cinemas now.
