Paul Hollywood breaks major Bake Off rule for first time ever

Paul Hollywood breaks major Bake Off rule for first time ever

The celebrity baker broke protocol during last night's Bread Week episode

It's clear that the latest season of the eagerly-anticipated Great British Bake Off has been a dramatic one indeed.

From Jeff's dramatic exit as well as Illiyin and Dylan's collapse all the way through to ex-host Sandi Toksvig's incredibly blunt reason for why she really quit the show - it's been a wild ride from start to finish.

And the latest slice of chaos sees Paul Hollywood break a pretty major Bake Off rule for the very first time.

Now, as we know, the beloved TV show sees 12 hopeful home bakers take part in a 'bake off', which tests every aspect of their baking skills as they battle it out to be crowned the Great British Bake Off's Best Amateur Baker.

Judges Paul and Prue Leith are joined by hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding to crown the champion.

However, Paul has only gone and broken a huge Bake Off tradition ever since the programme first hit our screens way back in 2010.

During last night's technical challenge (8 October), which challenged bakers to plait dough like a pro, the 'Breadfather' broke protocol and offered an actual demonstration on how to achieve the best results.

The celebrity chef could be seen parting his dough into seven sections, lining them up straight and then plaiting them in an intricate cross-over pattern - sparking quite the reaction in Channel 4 viewers at home.

One commented: "Shame NONE of the bakers paid attention!"

"Looks pretty easy. Can't see anything going wrong here," sarcastically quipped another.

What more would you knead after seeing the baking legend himself teach you the ropes?

Dylan smashed Bread Week, taking home the prestigious Star Baker title while John was delivered the crushing news that his time was up.

Upon leaving the competition, he said: "It is fine, it was expected, it was just a bad week this week. It's just how it is. Because everyone is so talented, you drop the ball and then it is your time to go.

"From being the first Star Baker of this season, then to having a really good week last week..."

Getting emotional, Dylan added: "The tears are tears of pride, yeah.

"I already knew my time in the series had ended sooner than I wanted, so when my name was announced, whilst I was heartbroken, I had made peace with it already."

The Great British Bake Off returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday next week at 8pm.
