For the most part, the Harry Potter movie franchise was intended to be watched by children, having been based on JK Rowling's kids' novels of the same name.
Naturally, therefore, parents across the world were left horrified back in 2010 when a scene in The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 saw two of the series' central characters in the nude, enjoying some not-so-child friendly one-on-one time.
When the debut instalment of the much-loved films - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - landed in cinemas a staggering 23 years ago, the wizarding world blockbuster was given a PG rating in the UK.

This meant that kids of any age were permitted to feast their eyes onto the star-studded flick - fronted by child stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, as well as several other British acting veterans.
In fact, the following two movies - The Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azkaban - were given the same rating.
It wasn't until the fourth film was released - The Goblet of Fire - that the film franchise appeared to take a dark turn.
Not only did this movie mark the official resurrection of the Dark Lord - also known as Voldermort, brilliantly portrayed by Ralph Fiennes - but it also saw several characters - including Cedric Digory and Barty Crouch Jr - actually killed off for the first time.

In the movies that followed, murder became a frequent occurrence, and by the time the second-to-last movie came out, producers were including some rather x-rated scenes, despite the cast of school children only having been 11 years old when the franchise kicked off.
Towards the end of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, viewers gain an unexpected glimpse at a naked Hermione and Harry.
After a cloud of smoke appears in a forest when Ron attempts to destroy one of Voldermort's seven Horcruxes - Slytherin's locket - a mirage appears before him, showing his two best friends embracing one another in the nude before the pair begin locking lips.

The moment marked the franchise's first allusion to intimacy, and was viewed at the time as hugely controversial.
Introducing fans of the franchise to the notion before the movie was even released, David Yates said: "Daniel Radcliffe appears naked in one scene. In the view we see Harry and a woman embracing and kissing.
"It's an intriguing scene and very sensual."

Mums and dads all over the world reportedly threatened to boycott the movie over one thing in particular, being that the nude scene featured nowhere in the book series.
According to ScreenRant, however, at the end of the day, there were no boycotts of the film upon its release, and in general, the franchise has remained one of the most successful in blockbuster history.
