With December just a matter of days away, I'd say it's definitely time to start up your Christmas movie marathon in the run-up to the big day.

From cult-classics like It's A Wonderful Life and The Holiday to feel-good flicks like Elf and The Grinch - it's clear we're spoilt for choice when it comes to the festive genre.

However, there's one film we all watch - sometimes multiple times - each year and that is none other than Love Actually.

The film, which first graced our screens and warmed our hearts back in 2003, follows the tangled and complicated love lives of various couples during the Christmas period.

As we all know, there are several separate love stories in Love Actually and most of them are pretty problematic.

Whether you're talking about Mark (Andrew Lincoln), who falls in love with his best mate's wife and makes a move on her while her hubby watches the telly, Juliet (Keira Knightley) who responds to such a pass by kissing him on the lips before running home to her husband, or the tear-jerking affair Harry (Alan Rickman) had while married to Karen (Emma Thompson) - it's clear things are far from fairytale for many characters in the film.

In fact, the previously-mentioned love triangle results in one of the most iconic, albeit controversial, scenes of the entire film.

We see Mark knocking on Juliet's door and holding up a bunch of cue cards to secretly communicate his true feelings for her.

One card reads: "To me, you are perfect."

Another says: "My wasted heart will love you 'til you look like this [insert image of a time-ravaged skeleton]."

A little creepy, but hey ho.

Now, while the film is over two decades old, Knightley still can't go about her life without someone making a reference to the scene.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, the 39-year-old revealed she came face-to-face with a group of construction workers holding up cue "I was stuck in traffic for ages recently and a car full of builders next to me started holding up the signs like in the movie," she joked before revealing how she really felt about the cue card scene.

She shared: "It was creepy and sweet at the same time, much like it was in the film."

Knightley is set to star in an upcoming thriller, Black Doves, which will land on Netflix next week (December 5).
