Margot Robbie fans shocked after discovering how old she actually was in Wolf of Wall Street

Margot Robbie fans shocked after discovering how old she actually was in Wolf of Wall Street

Margot Robbie's turn as Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street turned her into a Hollywood star

Film lovers are way out when guessing how old Margot Robbie was while filming The Wolf of Wall Street.

This role is what many believe put Robbie on the map after being a teen star in the hit Aussie TV show Neighbours for years.

No longer was she playing the schoolgirl, but now she’s a refined Brooklyn socialite.

In her role for the film, Robbie played Naomi Lapaglia, who was a former model and the real-life second wife of criminal stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), after he cheated on his first wife (Cristin Milioti).

Many believe Robbie was around the 26 or 28 mark when she played Lapaglia, but boy were they wrong.

Robbie was actually just 22 at the time of filming.

One stunned fan online wrote after the reveal: “No way. 32....”

Another said: “Holy s**t 22?”

Someone else took aim at DiCaprio’s controversy surrounding his affinity for younger women and wrote: “Of course the co-star was 22 in a Leo movie.”

Another user echoed the same sentiment: “3 more years and leo would not have thought about it.”

In the movie, there was once scene in particular which left people stunned, and now that they realise how old she was, they’re a little uncertain about how to feel.

It was when Naomi asked Jordan to start a fire while she freshened up and while he was debating with himself to leave her apartment, she appeared in the doorway wearing nothing but stockings and heels.

The scene is actually something Robbie insisted on doing, as she believed it was authentic to her character.

Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: “I think nudity for the sake of nudity is shameful. If they've put it in just so that a girl gets her top off, then that's disgusting. And you can always tell.

"But I also think it's disgusting when someone would have got naked in real life, in the film they conveniently leave their bra on, or hold up the bed sheet. Seeing someone being choreographed into being covered up irritates me just as much.

"The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world.

"So when Marty [Scorsese] was trying to help me out, and said in the scene where she seduces Jordan perhaps I could have a robe on, I said she wouldn't.

"She has to be naked. She's laying her cards on the table."
