Viewers have been left speechless over a steamy new x-rated period drama – though it seems they’re not feeling too traumatised, as people are also calling for a second series...
We’ve had quite a few raunchy shows on our screens over the past few years, from the surprisingly steamy moments in Bridgerton that left us cringing as we watched beside our parents to THAT infamous pillow scene in Richard Armitage drama Obsession.
Then, of course, for the past decade we’ve also had the Fifty Shades film series, adapted from the equally saucy books, which have been getting viewers hot under the collar for years.
Our latest romp comes from an ‘audacious’ new Sky period drama that many viewers and critics alike are absolutely loving.

Depicting the love affair between James VI and I (that’s VI of Scotland and I of England, FYI) and George Villiers, Mary & George follows the Countess of Buckingham as she encourages her charismatic son to seduce and scheme to conquer both the Court of England and the King.
Billed by Sky as an ‘outrageously dangerous limited event series’, the historical drama - which stars Julianne Moore, Nicholas Galitzine and Tony Curran - was released last month in the UK, and followed up with a Stateside premiere later this week via Starz.
It’s already racked up an impressive critics’ score of 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, while many viewers have found the series thoroughly enjoyable indeed.

“Mary & George is such an amazing show,” one posted on X, adding in response to another social media user: “Well it is very interesting, so much scheming, but I have to warn it’s quite explicit and graphic.”
Someone else said: “I had so much fun watching Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine in Mary & George. Long live the horny period drama.”
A third admitted: “Watching Mary & George on a train and there was really no one near me for the past two hours but now a guy's sitting in the row behind me and of course there's an orgy on screen.”

Others said the show left them ‘lost for words’, with one commenting: “JUST FINISHED MARY & GEORGE. I'M SPEECHLESS. INSANE. NICK, TONY AND JULIANNE DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB. THE WHOLE CREW! OMG I LOVE IT.”
Another wrote: “Mary & George was everything I hoped it would be, lost for words I’m so gagged.”
And of course, there’s some inevitable desperation for a follow-up to the ‘lustful, bawdy’ mini-series.
“Starting a petition for Mary & George season 2 but with Taylor and Nick in it,” one urged.
