Annoyed Missing You viewers have major complaint about Netflix thriller’s final episode

Missing You has divided viewers

Warning: contains spoilers for Missing You

Harlan Coben's latest crime-drama officially landed on Netflix on New Year’s Day and the fans who have binged the whole thing are now sharing their reactions.

The thriller has an impressive cast and stars Rosalind Eleazar as Detective Kat Donovan, whose fiancé Josh (played by Ashley Walters) disappears into thin air one day, remaining missing for 11 years.

Suddenly, when scrolling through a dating app years later, however, Kat is blindsided when a profile with Josh's photos appears. Having been dragged back into the mystery of his departure, ceaseless questions arise for the detective, many of which seem to connect Josh's case to her father's own murder.

But why are some viewers feeling disappointed about how the five-episode series wraps things up? First, let’s discuss how the show ends.

The penultimate episode ends on a cliffhanger when Kat went searching for Josh via a PO box that was connected to him. She eventually tracks down Josh and sees him approaching a little girl and a man on a beach. Sadie, the little girl, acknowledges Josh as ‘dad’ when the scene continues in the final episode.

Kat is able to confront Josh, who tells her that Sadie’s mum died a few years ago and the other man Kat just met is his ex’s father, who now lives with Josh and Sadie.

Shockingly, Josh says he never signed up to a dating app (it was a catfish account) and he explains why he had to leave Kat 11 years ago. He found out through Monte Leburne (Mark Warren), the person who was convicted of Clint’s death, that Kat's dad Clint (Sir Lenny Henry) was up to no good.

DCI Ellis Stagger (Richard Armitage) tells Kat he was arranging special treatment for Monte Leburne while he was in prison. He also confirmed he paid Leburne to say he killed Clint.

It’s also revealed that Clint was cheating on Kat’s mum, Odette (Brigid Zengeni). Kat eventually meets the person her dad had a 14-year affair with, and his name is Parker (Cyril Nri). Clint was blackmailed by mob boss Calligan (James Nesbitt) into working with him.

Eventually Clint had enough of being blackmailed and used by Calligan, and he also broke up with Parker. The last time Parker saw Clint was the night he died. It’s eventually revealed that Josh killed Clint, but he says he didn’t mean to. A major fight unfolded when Clint’s affair was discovered by Aqua (Mary Malone) and Josh walks in during their tussle and stabs him.

Along with Stagger, they decided to put the blame on Leburne so the case could be closed and everyone could return to their normal lives, but Josh couldn’t face Kat each day and lie to her about what happened to her dad.

When Josh confesses to Kat what actually happened, she seemingly forgives her former partner.

However some fans aren’t obsessed with the ending, and they’ve taken to social media to air their complaints.

Missing You on Netflix started so strong but wow I was very disappointed by the last ep,” one viewer shared on X.

“The ending ? Lmaoooo what dumb turn of events,” said another viewer.

A third Netflix viewer posted: “Anyone else binge watch the entire #MissingYouNetflix series tonight? No? Just me? I loved it up to the ending. What a letdown. I won't spoil it for you but damn! It had everything, intrigue, a good plot, intense, a guessing game & then, nada.”

A fourth viewer wrote: “Binged this today. I don't think I've ever been more frustrated at how unbelievably forgiving a protagonist was towards those who did her dirty #MissingYouNetflix.”

However, the reactions were not all bad. “Missing You on Netflix was absolutely insane,” one fan gushed. “OMG. I would’ve never guessed the ending.”

All episodes are streaming now on Netflix.
