A body language expert has revealed how Saoirse Ronan 'really felt' with just one simple gesture after shutting down Paul Mescal’s joke.
A clip from Friday night's (25 October) episode of The Graham Norton Show has gone viral after brilliantly illuminating a very vital point about women's safety.
Ronan and Mescal were joined by Denzel Washington as well as Eddie Redmayne on the sofa and, during the BBC segment, the latter discussed the special combat training he'd received before shooting the upcoming Sky drama, The Day of the Jackal.

It wasn't until Redmayne claimed he'd been trained to use his mobile phone as a weapon that Mescal made a remark about self-defence.
After being shown how to jab an attacker in the neck, Mescal joked while claiming he'd never think to whip out his phone if under attack.
"Who is actually going to think about that?" Mescal joked. "If someone actually attacked me, I’m not going to go 'phone'."

And while some members of the live audience laughed at the remark, Ronan - the only woman on the sofa - made a very important point in response, which completely silenced the studio.
"That’s what girls have to think about all the time," she said, leaving her trio of co-panellists silent.
"Am I right, ladies?" the actor added following a brief pause, after which she received a colossal round of applause.
And by the sounds of things, it wasn't just members of the live audience who were thrilled with her point.

Since then, body language expert, Darren Stanton, has weighed in on the exchange and told Tyla that there was one simple gesture which proved the Lady Bird star's 'authority' in that moment.
He said: "If you look at Saoirse’s body language, she’s sat at the centre, and her arms are to the side. "That says, 'I’m confident, I’m a confident woman'."
Explaining her posture some more, Darren then pointed to what having your abdomen 'exposed' means, continuing: "The area in our abdomen around our torso, you’ll notice people who tend to leave that area exposed are in powerful positions, or positions of authority, as it's where our vital organs are."

According to the expert, this means that 'psychologically', Saoirse was feeling 'very confident in herself'.
When the Normal People actor made the comment about the phone, he says Saoirse raised her eyebrows and 'flashed a bit of contempt', however, she put both Paul and Eddie 'in their place' very quickly.
"It was a demonstration of her personal power, and her strong sense of self and the audience applauded," Darren added, praising the 'nice moment'.
Rounding off his insights, Darren further claimed: "She’s supremely confident, however, Paul Mescal’s gestures became quite submissive after Saoirse’s comment."
