Is it just me, or is telly especially good at the moment?

It seems like no matter where we turn, we find something we simply have to watch.

Loads of viewers are bingeing Ripley right now, the psychological thriller starring Andrew Scott, and others are getting stuck into the second series of comedy and slasher-horror Wreck.

And if shows that are dark, murky and full of twists and turns is your thing - I have the perfect series for you to add to your list.

The layered and intense psychological drama is on Channel 5, and has viewers on the edge of their seats.

The Cuckoo lets us into the lives of the Haynes family; Nick (Lee Ingleby), Jessica (Claire Goose) and daughter Alice (Freya Hannan-Mills), and their desperate need for a fresh start following some bad financial decisions.

They decide to take in a house lodger Sian (Jill Halfpenny) to alleviate some of the pressure, but their life unravels when said lodger unmasks her true identity and reveals dark family secrets, sparking chaos and destruction.

The British series is a four-parter, the perfect amount for some seriously engrossing viewing.

The first episode aired on Channel 5 on 8 April, and a new episode follows each night at 9.00pm, becoming available to watch on My5 that same evening.

So, as of today (10 April), there are two out of four episodes you can dig into - one tonight, and the finale tomorrow night.

The Cuckoo has landed rave reviews from both critics and viewers at home.

Critic Emily Watkins wrote for The i that The Cuckoo is ‘a best-in-class weeknight drama’, and ‘well paced, well written, well acted.’

Viewers can't wait for the next episodes. (

Viewers have fled to social media each night to pile on the praise.

One person wrote on X: “First episode of #thecuckoo soooo creepy. Definitely left on a bit a cliffhanger! My daysss @halfpennyjill brilliant already!”

Another said: “10 minutes into #TheCuckoo on Channel 5 and I am hooked.|"

A third added: “Really enjoyed the first episode of #TheCuckoo Looking forward to seeing how this pans out! Never trust anyone who pops up at your window!"

And a fourth simply said: “Can’t wait to see where this goes.”

Cancel all of your plans, you’ve got some catching up to do!

The Cuckoo is airing on Channel 5 now.
