Demi Moore opens up about 'most violent' scene in the 'horrifyingly disturbing' horror The Substance

Demi Moore opens up about 'most violent' scene in the 'horrifyingly disturbing' horror The Substance

And it doesn't contain a single ounce of gore

The extremely gruesome new body horror on the block, The Substance, hit cinemas last month (20 September) and we're clearly still not over just how absolutely batsh*t insane it was.

The film, which is directed by the innovative Coralie Fargeat, stars the likes of Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, alongside an unsettling amount of spandex, incredible monstrous prosthetics and around a whopping 36,000 gallons of fake blood for the chaos incarnate end scene.

Check out the official trailer here:

Now, if you've watched the 'horrifyingly disturbing' horror, you'll know it's packed full to the brim with a bunch of stomach-churning scenes, but there's one in particular which Moore brands the 'most violent' of all - and it doesn't involve a single ounce of gore.

Without giving too much away, some of the other gore-filled scenes include Moore's back being literally unzipped from the inside-out as she somewhat 'births' a new drug-fuelled creation.

There's also another moment where she practically breaks her own leg in order to get up from a chair - bone crunching and all.

Oh yeah, and you can't forget the mutant creature which sees Moore and Qualley's characters practically fused together in a glob of human flesh, nails and hair, literally vomit up a breast before exploding in the street.

You get the idea.

Interestingly, though, it seems as if Moore reckons the aforementioned scenes, which literally had people leaving the cinema before it even finished, all come second place to what she considered is the grimmest of all.

Speaking on the Late Night with Seth Myers show, the Ghost star revealed that the absolute grossest scene was by far when she and Quaid's characters were sitting down for lunch and he was guzzling back a seemingly endless amount of seafood.

In the scene, Quaid, who plays slimy TV producer, Harvey, tells Elisabeth that things go downhill for women 'after 50' following his decision to replace her with a 'younger, better' version to take over her exercise show.

"I will just warn everyone, the scene with Dennis [Quaid] eating the shrimp is by far the most violent scene in the whole movie," Moore revealed.

"He ate, I think, four pounds of shrimp, tearing the heads off with sound effects…"

It's clear other viewers feel the same with one X user writing: "I was about to order a shrimp cocktail for dinner when my brain flashed the scene of Dennis Quaid eating shrimp in THE SUBSTANCE and I immediately gagged and ordered a Caesar salad."

"Grossest part of The Substance was Dennis Quaid eating that plate of shrimp," agreed another.

And a final X user echoed: "There was no scene in The Substance that bothered me as much as the shrimp scene."

The Substance is available to watch in selected cinemas across the UK now.
