Despite only having landed in UK cinemas less than a week ago, Wicked has been deemed a box-office smash hit, having raked in a nine-figure sum from fans so far.
Naturally, therefore, fans of the magical musical believe movie producers could be inspired to adapt another Broadway hit for the silver screen, with many convinced they've already got a particular favourite in mind.
Wicked - which stars musical theatre legend Cynthia Erivo and US chart-topper Ariana Grande in the roles of Elphaba and Glinda - is said to have brought home an eyebrow-raising $164 million in its opening weekend.

It's now the highest-grossing opening weekend for an adaptation of a Broadway production, knocking Into the Woods - which opened in 2014 to the tune of a considerably lower $31 million - off the top spot.
And as we say, after proving a colossal success for Universal bosses, film fans reckon Hollywood bosses will be inspired to adapt another musical off the back of its success: Hamilton.
For those unfamiliar with the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, this rap extravaganza centres on the life and loves of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, his vital part in the US revolution, and the development of the country's constitution.
Far from a history lesson, however, this biographical banger - which premiered in 2015 - blends hip-hop, R&B, pop and soul music together with traditional theatre ballads and show tunes.

In the nine years it's been available to watch it has also starred several huge-name Broadway veterans, including Lin-Manuel himself - who famously played Hamilton when the show premiered - Leslie Odom Jr., Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff and Anthony Ramos.
The production was so deemed so successful that Disney+ commissioned a recorded version of the stage show, which is still available to those with a subscription to the streaming service.
And with a staggering 11 Tony Awards, seven Olivier Awards, a Grammy and a Billboard music award on its CV, it's really no wonder that musical theatre buffs are desperate for a movie adaptation of Hamilton.

Taking to social media this week to comment on the record-breaking success of Wicked, one fan predicted: "Oh lord they’re gonna make a Hamilton movie aren’t they."
The same viewer went on to joke: "They filmed the stage show, I mean that they’re gonna subject us to a full on movie movie."
Playing on the lyrics to one of Hamilton's most famous hits, a third teased: "They’re not throwing away their shots."

Also chiming in on the debate, another continued: "I feel like they definitely are, and I feel like it probably will be terrible. Unlike Wicked, I don't think Hamilton lends itself to film adaptation."
"They probably are! Hamilton’s been so iconic, it's only a matter of time," a fifth went on.
Lin-Manuel previously addressed pleas for a movie version, sending very mixed messages to his ever-growing fan-base.
"I don't love a lot of movie musicals based on shows, because it's hard to stick the landing," he told Variety.

"I don't know what a cinematic version of Hamilton looks like. If I had, I'd have written it as a movie."
So, really, it's anyone's guess at this point.
