It's the age old question that always causes a bit of a stir - are you supposed to keep ketchup in the fridge? Or the cupboard?
Well, Heinz has finally settled the debate once and for all.

Just last week, one person took to Reddit with the very question, explaining: "My girlfriend's family doesn't refrigerate their ketchup. That is all."
And let's just say other Redditors had a lot of opinions. While some agreed that ketchup absolutely has to go in the fridge once it's been opened, others thought the total opposite.
One person commented: "I refrigerate because if the bottle says refrigerate after opening, I'm doing that. But I could see putting them back in the pantry if being cold is not necessary."
While another said: "The bottle does say for it to be its best, refrigerate after opening."

And a third added: "I like my fries hot and my ketchup cold."
Others disagreed, with one writing: "My parents never put the ketchup in the fridge I think it's better room temperature."
With another adding: "Finally found my people! I only really enjoy it at room temp."

While a third said: "I never put it in the fridge. I like warm ketchup."
"Lots of restaurants keep the ketchup out just sitting on tables. I don't see the issue," added a fourth.
So is there an official answer to the debate?

Well, according to the product info on Heinz ketchup, we should be refrigerating after opening, and eating within eight weeks.
And back in 2017, after a huge debate kicked off about the matter on Twitter, Heinz issued a statement to put the debate to rest.
"Because of its natural acidity, Heinz Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening," they said.
Well, that settles it then!
