Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
In a post to the Riverdance legend's Twitter account, a spokesperson said he was under specialist care.
It explained that the 64-year-old has also undergone surgery to help treat the disease.
"Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer," the message read.
"He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors.
"No further comments will be made at this time. We ask only for your prayers and well wishes. Thank you. Teamlord."
Since news of his diagnosis was announced, fans have taken to social media to offer words of support.
One person said: "Prayers and well wishes to Michael Flatley to his family and friends."
Another commented: "Sending [prayer emoji] and wishing all the very best to Michael and his family, friends and all the team."
"My thoughts are with Michael, his beautiful family and friends and all at Lord Of The Dance," put a third.
While another added: "You are in my thoughts and prayers as are your family - get well soon Michael."
Flatley shot to superstardom as the lead in Ireland's iconic Eurovision Song Contest entry Riverdance back in 1994.
It then went on to become the hit stage show The Lord of The Dance, which has been played all around the world over the past 25 years.
Away from his career as a dancer, Flatley has also been involved in the movie business.
Back in 2019, he wrote, directed and starred in the thriller Blackbird, opposite Eric Roberts.
However, he told the BBC later on that it wasn't easy to get made, due to his background.
"And I’ll tell you what, the big motivation for me making Blackbird is all the people that said, 'Impossible, you can’t do it. You can’t be an actor – you’re a dancer'.
"I mean, I’ve heard it till I’m blue in the face and you just have to go for it."
