Tesco shoppers are in shock after finding out the cost of pads almost doubled last year.
While Tesco's own-brand essentials pack of pads were previously priced at 2p per towel - and 23p per pack - it has now been revealed that the products increased to 4p per pad and 42p per pack in July last year.
MoneySavingExpert.com explains that while this doesn't sound like much in the short term, the 'lifetime cost' of buying these products has risen from £242 to £441.

This is based on The Absorbent Hygiene Products Manufacturers Association (AHPMA) estimating 22 tampons or pads are used during each period, and NHS estimating that women will have approximately 480 periods on average.
Asda is now the cheapest for pads, with its regular ultra towels priced at 3p each - or 50p for a pack of 16. The retailer's non-applicator tampons are also priced at 2p each - or 70p for a pack of 32.
Meanwhile Morrisons' maxi towels are 4p each or 85p for a pack of 24.

Tesco told MSE that there had been a significant rise in the production cost of the towels. The retailer told Tyla: "We know that the cost of buying essential period products can be a real struggle for many people, so we work hard with our suppliers to make these products affordable."
But after only learning of the increase this week, people are furious, with many in shock over the dramatic rise amidst the steep increase in living costs over the last few months.
One person said: "@Tesco please tell me why you have DOUBLED the price of your cheapest sanitary towels since last year? Absolutely disgusting."

While another added: "@Tesco contributing to period poverty!"
And a third wrote: "Disgraceful tbh. Items like these should be free or sold much more cheaply."
