Experts have issued a warning over the dangers of using your air fryer this Christmas, as one common mistake could prove catastrophic.

While it may seem exaggerated, I can assure you that the air fryer has significantly transformed many people's lives.

It's creation was truly revolutionary, and I struggle to imagine a world in which we don't have them in our kitchens.

One time of year where they definitely get their cost-per-use is Christmas, when naturally, we're hosting, cooking and consuming more!

The no-faff process makes it tempting to cram the draws full of festive treats to whip out on the table in 20 minutes.

But an expert has warned that making this mistake could pose some real dangers.

Luke Osborne, Deputy Technical Director at Electrical Safety First, has branded the air fryer a 'staple' in our kitchen set-up.

A survey by Good Food Nation found that it is the third most used kitchen appliance by Brits, but they don't come without their risks.

An accidental fire is not off the cards if they are not used safely.

Osborne said: "Air fryers have seen a huge surge in popularity in the last year, so as more of these items are used in homes, there is a risk we could see accidents involving these appliances if people don’t ensure they are using them safely."

He added: "There are some vital steps you can take to protect yourself and save yourself a visit from the fire service."

And there are three main pieces of advice.

The expert warned: "Always register the product to make sure you are contactable in the event a fault is detected by the manufacturer.

"Never overfill your air fryer and never plug the appliance into an extension lead to avoid potential overheating."

He continued: "Make sure you keep your power cords away from hot surfaces to avoid damaging cables, which could pose a serious fire risk and always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to cleaning your device."

The company warned that at any one time, your air fryer trays should be a maximum of two-thirds full.

But cleaning the appliance can cause issues too.

It's best to avoid submerging the draws in water, as this could increase the risk of electric shocks.

The experts recommend waiting at least half an hour after cleaning the appliance before using it again.

But apart from all of that, happy air frying!!
