Deliveroo's most ordered items have been revealed and it’s not what you’d expect

Deliveroo's most ordered items have been revealed and it’s not what you’d expect

Several previous top picks from Deliveroo's roster of restaurants have been knocked off by healthier, TikTok-friendly alternatives

There's nothing Brits love more than a takeaway.

And with a plethora of delivery apps just a fingerprint away, it's easier now than ever to have our favourite foods delivered straight to our front doors within a matter of minutes.

Apparently, as well as placing an order most Friday nights, however, us UK foodies are also creatures of habit in another respect - in that we're all ordering the same thing.

At one point, the likes of McDonald's, Subway and Starbucks were the most commonly delivered items on the much-loved takeaway service, Deliveroo.

For those out of the loop with the mega Gen Z-friendly app, it connects customers at home to all of their favourite eateries - most of which are chain restaurants - and allows them to place orders.

It also allows users who mightn't have time to nip to the shop to order groceries from their local supermarket.

Interestingly, however, according to a survey conducted by bosses at Deliveroo, these fast-food top picks have been knocked off their top spots recently by some new-ish additions to the UK hospitality industry.

And by the sounds of things, customers are swapping their Big Macs for chicken wings, their foot-longs for Cesar salads and their iced caramel lattes for a health-conscious Waitrose dish.

Who got top spot on Deliveroo's most ordered items?

That's right, in the No. 1 spot on the platform’s annual 100 Report when it comes to most-ordered items is US buffalo wing boss, Wingstop.

Their best-loved dish? A portion of eight boneless wings.

For those who haven't yet tried a bite of these succulent nuggets, the Texas-born chain is famous for its mouth-watering array of flavours and rubs.

Spicy food fans usually go for the likes of Louisiana Hot or Brazilian Citrus Pepper, whilst those enjoying the milder side of life can enjoy the tangy goodness of Hawaiian or Hickory Smoked BBQ.

With a total of 11 flavours to choose from, you can't lose with a Wingstop.

The rest of Deliveroo's top trending dishes of 2024

The dishes coming in second and third are - surprisingly - both Caesar salads... I know, the clean girl aesthetic really is taking over!

And whilst you mightn't want to believe me, it's true. The second most popular dish was an SP Caesar from The Salad Project - a healthy hut in London focussing on crispy lettuce leaves and creamy sauce.

Similarly, the UK capital's Seiz'a Caesar with Blackened Chicken from Atis is in the third most-loved, taking on hundreds of orders per day.

When it comes to fourth in line to the Deliveroo throne, even more unusually, it's one single item.

A vegetable, to be more specific.

Apparently, hundreds of customers using the delivery app per day are ordering a single cucumber from the boujee supermarket chain Waitrose.

Surely not everyone is still going on about these viral cucumber salads?

A Glasgow hotspot called Franks holds the fifth place spot for its uber-cheesy Pepperoni pizza, closely followed by jerk chicken in sixth, a 'create your own Poke bowl' in seventh and charred harissa chicken in eighth.

And to top off this bizarre list, a bunch of bananas came in ninth for Deliveroo-using Brits, whilst a single bottle of wine bagged the 10th place spot.

What Deliveroo bosses have said about the list

Addressing the transition in trends - much of which he says is due to the importance of TikTok in promoting products - Deliveroo's VP of Regional Growth recently told press: "We’re thrilled to unveil our eighth annual list of Deliveroo’s 100 most trending dishes and essentials.

"Most notably, we’ve spotted the highest number of grocery essentials making our Deliveroo 100 list, with a massive 600% increase since 2022, as consumers put everything from cucumbers to white wine in their baskets."
