Many people see a can of Coke as a hangover staple, while others might reach for one from the fridge on a nice, hot day.

For the real fans, there’s absolutely no way to improve on the perfection of the carbonated beverage, which was originally developed for medicinal purposes in the late 19th Century.

However, a new riff on the classic has been going viral online – something some people believe is ‘f**king great’... while others can’t think of anything worse.

I don’t even have to try it to know I am definitely in the latter school of thought.

What is a fluffy Coke?

The drink recently went viral on TikTok when Grace Burke (@not.eg) shared a video of her making a ‘fluffy Coke’ with her grandmother.

“Look how fluffy my Coke is, lookie there,” Burke’s grandma Memama says at the start of the video.

“We’re gonna make a fluffy Coca-Cola.”

How do you make a fluffy Coke?

You only need two ingredients to create the controversial pimped-up drink, and they’re likely things you’ve got in your cupboards already.

Along with – obviously – some Coke, you’ll also need a tub of Marshmallow Fluff, a spread made from corn syrup, dried egg white and sugar that’s particularly popular in the US.

You simply smear Marshmallow Fluff around the inside of a glass or cup before filling it with ice.

You then top that up with Coke, and you’ve got the finished product – as simple as that.

Speaking to Today, Burke explained: “My mom mentioned she had seen the drink on-line and thought it would be fun for my grandmother (Memama) and me to make.

“And she was right!”

What do people think of the fluffy Coke?

Chrissy Teigen tried it out after seeing it online, and posted her own video with fans as she demonstrated her attempt, which used Dr. Pepper instead of Coca-Cola and also saw her mixing the Marshmallow Fluff into the drink, along with a dash of vanilla syrup.

“And yeah of course it was f**king great,” she said. “It’s literally marshmallow, vanilla and soda. If you don’t like it, you’re nuts."

But not everyone is quite as sold on the idea, with one writing on TikTok: “Don’t get me wrong, I may have a sweet tooth, but watching this made my stomach hurt."

Someone else said their ‘teeth hurt’, while another commented: “Adding sugar to Coke is CRAZY.”

A fourth added: “This trend is a little insane but it was so good.”
