Choosing the perfect name for your pet is no easy feat.

Some people may choose a moniker inspired by a famous character, or a classic animal name. There have even been cases of human couples who were left feeling ‘disappointed’ after a relative ‘stole’ their baby name for their new dog.

A different couple sparked outrage when they revealed they didn't know whether to give a name to their baby or a dog they hoped to adopt in the future.

The names for our beloved animal companions can be inspired by a whole range of different things, however there are apparently some names that are apparently very overused.

Which group of people would be the most privy to the most common names for pets? Vets, of course. And now a group of animal medical professionals have revealed the monikers they hear the most.

Vets at the Westfield Veterinary Group - Union in New Jersey, USA, filmed a light-hearted video about the names pet owners choose for their animals.

So, which are some of the most popular pet names?

Here they are:

Bella

Teddy

Rocky

Milo

Cooper

Coco

Fluffy

Teddy

Lola

Mocha

But, there's one that's even more popular...

That would be Luna.

Out of the 11 names on the list, “Luna” was called out a whopping five times, and both Bella and Teddy were mentioned twice.

Pet owners weighed in on the choices in the comments. As it turns out, Luna appears to be a popular choice for both dogs and cats.

“I’m taking Luna to Starbucks for a puppacino,” one Instagram user joked.

“My cat is Luna but her full name is Lunafreya, so I feel like I should get a pass,” another person wrote in the comments.

A pet owner confessed: “Not me sitting here with my dog Bella and kitty Luna.”

Someone else said the most common name among pets would ‘100%’ be Luna. “The sad part is, everyone that names their dog Luna thinks that they’re being original.”

“I would agree with Bella and Luna, and then also Max and Blue,” another viewer opined.

A viewer who works at a pet hotel claimed they have a new Luna ‘every week’.

And a cat owner shared: “So sad that Luna is so common! I named my cat Luna because of a character off a soap opera that I loved, and because she is white and grayish, which reminds me of the moon, specifically with her bright and intense blue eyes. Luna is the Latin (word) for moon.”

Meanwhile, a dog owner explained the inspiration behind his pet’s human-sounding name. “My dog is named Joel because I wanted to call him a full-grown man’s name so it would be cute when people see that he’s a tiny chihuahua.”
