Your wedding day is meant to the happiest day of your life, which is why so much effort goes into everyone's outfits and not just the bride's.
But one mother-in-law has divided opinion online after she was slammed for wearing what's been dubbed a 'tacky' black dress to her son's wedding.
News of the dress made its way to Reddit when pictures of it were shared in the 'weddingshaming' forum, along with a caption that explained that the controversial outfit belonged to the mother-of-the-groom.

The post was captioned: "Mother-in-law's church wedding look" and showed the very plunging black dress which, we have to say, the mother-in-law was rocking.
The picture went far from unnoticed on the forum and users were quick to weigh in on whether it was a wedding look worth shaming.
One user who spoke out in defence of the dress wrote: "I have absolutely no problems with this outfit. If my body was great like her's, I would wear it myself. Plus she is not wearing white."

A second added: "That's one hot mama! I've got no problem with this dress."
"She looks amazing! What's the issue?" questioned a third while a fourth wrote: "Uhh is this ageist or what? I guess y'all have way strict church view or something, cus this is totally fine to me. And she look gorgeous. Not tacky and not showing too much of anything. She look elegant [sic]."
"As a former wedding planner I don't see an issue," wrote a fifth viewer. "Not all churches have conservative dress codes. It’s not white. And the MOG wears it well."
However, not everyone thought it was appropriate, with one user comparing it to the sort of dress that would be worn at a 'sexy funeral'.

"It's black though," they remarked, "like she's going to a sexy funeral."
"It's the low low cut, high leg 'look at me' style of the dress," added a second. "It just feels super cringe."
"She's screaming for the attention to be on her," remarked a third viewer of the black dress, who dubbed it 'tacky.'

Then there was this user who tired to be on the fence with their assessment of the dress.
"In some cultures, [wearing black] is considered rude as it can represent mourning," they wrote. "But it's considered okay in others.
"In most cultures though, turning up in a micro skirt in church would be considered inappropriate."
