A woman has been trolled over her choice to name her baby after a colour.
Taking to Reddit, the expectant mother explained how she first wanted to name her son ‘Rex’ or ‘Sacha’, but her husband dislikes both of the names.
“I initially wanted to name my son (currently five months pregnant) ‘Rex’, or ‘Sacha’, but my husband hates both options."

She described that her and her partner are from a Caucasian background and 'have an Irish surname. Think ‘Fitzwilliam’,' she writes, keeping her actual surname under wraps for anonymity.
The name they eventually settled on is Red.
While the pregnant mother is aware that the subreddit ‘name nerds’ can be ‘brutally honest’, she wants honest feedback on her and her partner’s potential name choice.

“I like how you’re often brutally honest on this sub. As a couple, we’re definitely on the weirder/hippy/creative end of the spectrum,” she writes.
“I don’t want to saddle my son with a silly name, but my husband and I both have unusual names and we’re grateful for them.”
She then asks: “What are your thoughts on Red?”

Unafraid to cross any boundaries, the fellow commenters didn’t hold back on their opinions of the name.
One user wrote: “Red sort of feels like what you'd call an old hunting dog, in my opinion.”
“There's a Blake Shelton song called Ol' Red that is about a hound dog that hunts down escaped prisoners,” another responded.
“It honestly just makes me think of the dad from That 70s Show. Not necessarily a bad association bc it’s a great show, and he’s a great character,” a different Reddit user wrote. “Not something I would personally use but there’s a lot worse out there in my opinion.”

“I’m not a fan, it doesn't feel like a full name to me,” wrote someone else.
However, others backed the expectant parents’ name choice for their child.
“I like Red! I'm surprised to hear myself say it actually. But somehow it feels classic and timeless,” one said of the name.

“This is normally not the kind of name I like but I actually don’t mind Red as a name. I think it works,” wrote another.
“To me, Red isn't too out there at all. Easy to spell, say, is universal sounding. Its super closer to more common names like Fred… Also it sounds like it suits you two as a couple.
“Go for it. Colour names are cool and loaded with meaning, both good and bad.”
