It seems not everyone has been left feeling empowered and overjoyed after seeing the Barbie movie, as one woman has opened up about how she and her boyfriend have split over the flick.
While all break-ups are hard, we just can't imagine what happened with this one and how the most highly anticipated movie of the year was involved.
So, let's get started.
Taking to Reddit to vent her anguish, the 23-year-old explained how she was really excited to watch Barbie at the cinema as she's a 'huge Greta Gerwig fan'.

She acknowledged that, while her boyfriend - also 23 - 'liked Ryan Gosling', he 'didn’t know anything else about it' and more than likely wasn't aware of the feminist themes - but she 'secretly hoped he would get the message'.
"Over the duration of the movie I could tell he was getting more and more uncomfortable/upset and i was getting really sad (both from the movie and his reaction) and I knew we would end up having a conversation about it afterwards," she wrote.
"He didn’t talk to me until we got in the car. He then told me that he was really offended by the movie and said that it was the kind of thing I should have watched with my girlfriends and not him."

The woman then explained how she and her boyfriend had experienced problems in the past surrounding 'his weird comments about women and the lgbtq community' - which is a major red flag in itself, I must say.
"I was tired of having to always deal with his attitude and disrespect and was also maybe on this girl-power high," she went on. "So I told him it was over."
But to make things even worse, the woman explained how her boyfriend lives with her, and while he packed up his belongings and left, his brother called her a few days later saying he was MIA (missing in action).
The woman later updated Redditors that her now ex-boyfriend was staying with a cousin and was safe - but she also acknowledged how she 'wrote that post in a frenzy of panic and guilt'.

"With a clearer head I can recognize that yes, we broke up because we were incompatible and I was at my limit - not because of a movie."
People were quick to flock to her defense and offer words of kindness and support, with one saying: "Sorry he lacked the Kenergy to step up when he needed to.
"I know it hurts right now, but you absolutely did the right thing."

And another pointed out: "OP, this is not your fault. Reasonable people do not have this kind of reaction to going to a movie.
"It sounds like your ex was in the process of falling down some kind of rabbit hole - maybe some kind of toxic Andrew Tate like masculinity thing. That's obvs just a guess. It's classic that this happens to a man leeching off his GF."
Very well said!
