Pharmacist reveals three supplements you think are healthy but probably aren’t

The list of popular wellness vitamins may 'surprise' you...

It's that time of year where we're all feeling a little worse for wear, and many of us are rushing to stock up on all the best supplements to keep our health in check.

However, it's important that you research exactly which vitamins you're taking, as an expert has now revealed which three supplements you might think are healthy, but probably aren’t.

Taking to TikTok, Amina Khan - who goes by the handle @aminathepharmacist online - began her rundown of three supplements she would 'never' take as a pharmacist warning that some viewers may be 'surprised' at the list.

Gummy vitamins

Up first on the list is none other than the social media-viral gummy vitamins.

"These are basically just a sugar pill," Amina claims. "You might as well go have a sweet - they are packed with sugar and filler ingredients, and I know so many of you binge on these."

Explaining that they can be 'very easily over-consumed', the pharmacist warned that they could even lead to 'mineral toxicity'.

"Some of these gummies don't even have enough nutrients in them to even have an effect on you," she warned, before hitting out at the fact that certain companies even make 'Vimto-flavoured' gummy bears, which Amina dubs as 'clever marketing'.

General multivitamins

Next are general multivitamins which Amina says 'have a bit of everything in them'.

She explained: "Some of the doses of each nutrient are so low, they hardly have an effect on you.

"Also, you don't need all the vitamins and the multivitamin."

Referencing one particular bottle of multivitamins which cost just £1.50, Amina asked: "I mean, how effective is it really?"

Hair, skin, and nail multivitamins

And last on the rundown are hair, skin, and nail multivitamins.

Amina continued: "What do these focus on? Hair, skin, or nails? They're not solution-focused."

The pharmacist also added that the 'most important vitamins' in these supplements are often 'too low to even have an effect on you'.

It's also important to note that any supplements or vitamins should be taken alongside an already healthy and balanced diet.

Viewers have since rushed to the comments to share their reactions, with one TikTok user writing: "Vitamins are so confusing."

"I'm chucking all the Gummies now," revealed a second, while a third agreed: "You are soo right. I never understand those gummies full of sweet."

A fourth exclaimed: "Someone finally said it!"

"I read somewhere it's better to consume the essential nutrients through food," noted another, and a final TikTok user added: "Great video!! Totally agree with you! A lot of people I know overdose on gummies. So easy to do!"
