A therapist has revealed the one thing they always do while talking to clients - and they don't even realise they're doing it.
If you're having a session with a therapist, you really want to feel like they're listening to everything you're saying in order to get the most out of the appointment.
Which is why one therapist has explained that she and her colleagues have mastered a pretty impressive technique to reassure patients that they're fully engaged in the conversation.

Taking to Instagram, @averythe_therapist explained that it's not something therapists talk about, but something that they all do.
Every job can be tiring - and we're all human - so it makes total sense.
"Therapists really don't talk about how at some point we learned to yawn with our mouths closed." she said.

In the clip, Avery can be seen revealing how she manages to yawn without anybody knowing - and it's seriously convincing.
In the comments, other therapists were quick to agree, with many explaining they're also guilty of stifling a yawn.
One wrote: "I thought I was the only one. Truth is we’re not yawning because the session is boring. Sometimes, that mid day tiredness just kicks in at the weirdest time."

While another said: "I usually just do and reassure them I’m tracking them and not bored if needed. But I’ve done the invisible yawn before."
A third added: "I would feel SO honored and seen if my therapist actually let out a yawn in session while I’m balling my eyes out. It shows that they are non-judge mentally holding space, staying regulated to handle my dysregulation, and possibly passing on their contagious yawn to me to help me shift into a down regulated space.
"Yawn freely!! (Caution: others may be deeply offended)."

Others said it wasn't so convincing however, with another adding: "Lol one of my clients said 'I can tell you’re yawning it’s okay just yawn'."
Another wrote: "If I yawn, I always tell my clients, 'I’m yawning at life, not at you, promise' and they usually say they get it too."
"I like when my therapist don’t act like robots lmao it makes me more comfortable about my normal bodily functions lol," someone else added.
Meanwhile, one client explained that they can always tell when their therapist is about to yawn, so they look away to allow them to 'yawn freely' without feeling embarrassed.
