A woman has opened up about her husband’s emotional reaction after discovering she couldn’t have sex on their wedding night after 40 years of waiting.
Sarah Jones-Green, 44, and her husband, Martin, were in for quite the shock on her wedding night back in 2020 following four years of dating without doing the deed as they wanted to save it for their special day.
Sarah, a marketer from Greenwich, London, exclusively spoke to Tyla about how her faith and upbringing influenced her perspective on intimacy and marriage in general.
"My dear mother waited for marriage and I was always inspired by her," she explained, before sharing whether there was ever a moment she questioned her decision to wait.
The bride told us that 'all the men' she had previously dated had been 'very impatient' and 'unwilling to wait' adding: "I didn’t really have any intimate feelings until I met my now husband, Martin.

Sharing a little more about their sex life, Sarah noted: "We enjoy foreplay and he is so respectful of me that he never once tried to overstep the boundaries.
"I’ve always considered the act of making love to be something that’s reserved for a husband and wife."
Highlighting that this was 'just her opinion' as it felt like it was the 'right thing' for her, Sarah acknowledged: "I understand people want to discover deeper levels of intimacy in earlier stages of relationships than I have."
The pair were unable to consummate their marriage after Sarah waited 40 years to be physically intimate (Supplied) Now, when it finally came down to the wedding night, Sarah and Martin were unable to consummate their marriage as she unfortunately felt an 'aching' sensation.
"We tried on several occasions and Martin was so very patient and just didn’t want to hurt me," she recounted. "I felt so disappointed though because we couldn’t consummate our marriage on our honeymoon night.
"He reassured me and we spent the night cuddled up in his arms."
Reiterating the fact that she and her hubby had 'tried several times' as they 'didn’t understand what was going on' during the eve of their special day, Sarah added: "I had an inkling that I needed to see the doctor."
Sarah opened up about her hubby's sweet response (Supplied) Her GP later performed a physical examination, and found Sarah has a condition called a microperforate hymen - a condition where the hymen is very thick, but has a single, small opening.
Speaking of her husband's response to the situation, Sarah praised: "Martin was so very understanding and said straight away that he will come with me and cuddle me the whole time we were in the surgery."
Sarah is currently 'saving up' to for a hymenectomy surgery (Supplied) And as for how the pair of newlyweds navigated the challenges that arose from their initial inability to have sex, Sarah assured: "We have just been going on romantic dates, dinners, bowling and cinema and being in each other's company.
"Martin is so very patient and our relationship has always been more than lust. We have real romantic connections that go much further than the bedroom."
So, what's next for Sarah?
Ahead of the surgery, Sarah and Martin's intimacy involves 'lots of hugs and just being close' (Supplied) Well, she wasn't keen on using dilators suggested by the GP as she 'knew it would hurt', adding: "If us trying to make love was so painful then this would be so much worse."
Sarah is currently still 'saving up' to for a hymenectomy surgery - a surgical procedure to remove extra tissue from the hymen - something which she says would make her feel 'complete'.
Still unable to have fully consummated her marriage, she explained: "I’m on a waiting list until at least August so I’m going to have to get the operation done privately."
And what does intimacy look like for Sarah and her husband as for now?
"At the moment," Sarah shares, "lots of hugs and just being close post surgery!"
