Woman left fighting for her life after drinking airport vending machine coffee riddled with insects

Woman left fighting for her life after drinking airport vending machine coffee riddled with insects

The airline worker went into anaphylactic shock

A 21-year-old airline worker went into anaphylactic shock after drinking a coffee she'd purchased from an airport vending machine.

The unnamed traveller was waiting to embark on a flight from Son Sant Joan airport, nearby the Mallorca capital, Palma, on Monday (22 April) when she opted to purchase a caffeinated beverage.

After her cardboard cup finished filling up with the warm liquid, she took a sip, only to notice something rather off about the taste.

Wanting to check out the quality of her coffee, she lifted the lid, only to be met with the stomach-wrenching sight of a swarm of insects, floating around in the cup.

Within a matter of minutes, the woman was thrown into anaphylactic shock, during which her face colossally swelled up and her throat began to narrow.

As well as struggling to breathe entirely, she also began to see 'various swelling' developing on her skin.

At the airport, the woman was quickly administered adrenaline by health services - as well as a series of other drugs - all aimed at tackling her severe allergic reaction.

It was then that she was rushed to hospital, where she subsequently spent 36 hours in the intensive care unit before she was discharged two days later.

According to local publication Ultima Hora, the woman's family have launched a complaint to National Police against the airport for allowing insects to be present within their hospitality outlets.

In their statement, they emphasise that an infestation like the one in this case should be considered a crime against public health, as well as something that has resulted in reckless injuries.

The family also go on to accuse airport staff of failing to make sure that the machine was working safety and was maintaining hygiene standards.

The vending machine has since been ruled as out of use.

Tyla has contacted Son Sant Joan airport and the National Police for comment.

Speaking of stomach-turning discoveries, the news from Spain comes after another woman went viral after finding an outbreak of mould taking over her water bottle.

Even more traumatising, however, is that the TikTok star admitted she's still happy to drink from the plastic container.

Avery, who goes by the handle @notaverykatherine online, took to TikTok to share with her followers a little more about her discovery.

"I have a confession to make," she continued. "I have been drinking out of it and there is hella, hella mould in it."

With that said, however, Avery claimed she just didn't 'care', adding: "Call me clinically insane. I just don't care."

She then showed viewers the nozzle area of her water bottle caked in mould , continuing: "You guys might scream."

Avery also admitted that there was also mould in the straw, calling the state of the water bottle a 'crime scene'.

Gross!
