You deserve a medal of your own if you're yet to see the footage of pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati's stint at the Olympics - specifically, the moment his dreams of winning gold were lost because of his manhood - and now, he's finally responded to the viral moment.

3 August gave us a moment that reverberated around the world, as 21-year-old Ammirati was taking the Olympic pole vaulting event by storm.

He had impressively cleared 5.40 and 5.60 meter bars, and the French athlete was in pole position (sorry) to clear the 5.70 meter with ease.

And then the moment happened... Ammirati's penis made direct contact with the pole and his dreams weren't the only thing to be crushed.

The moment seems to cause the Olympian to become disorientated and distracted, thus leading to his fall that cost him a win and led to him being disqualified.

Initially, following the incident, Ammirati ignored the elephant in the room and instead focused on his loss.

He told the French Athletics Federation: “I’m a bit gutted, because I didn’t miss anything on the third attempt at 5.70 m.

“What I did miss was a bit of jumping in training to fine-tune the settings. Just a technical session.

“I was 100 percent physically, but I was missing a bit of pole vault."

He added: "The conditions were good. It’s the first time I’ve started a competition without any stress.

“As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal: to interact with the audience. I was almost there.”

Though it's now been dealt with head on, as Swedish track and field Olympian Armand Duplantis called attention to the now-iconic moment on social media.

Duplantis commented on Ammirati's Instagram post: "The viral sensation", alongside a fire emoji.

Ammirati then responded with four crying laughing emojis.

It's good to know he sees the funny side - and is no doubt enjoying all of the attention.

Following the gobsmacking moment, commentators were left not knowing how to respond.

One appeared to say: "On the way down..." before their words trailed off, while another simply made a sound that could only be described as portraying disbelief a replay of the shocking scene played.

People across social media have been showering the pole vaulter with support and good humour.

One person wrote: "I think its a bigger flex than winning a medal lmao.”

Another added: ""Oh... he brought that baguette to the games."
